Urology Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist (Band 6)9 Month Fixed-Term / Secondment (Maternity Leave Cover)
Are you an experienced and compassionate registered nurse looking to develop your career in urology cancer services?
We are seeking a motivated Band 6 Urology Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist to join our multidisciplinary team on a 9-month fixed-term or secondment opportunity to provide maternity leave cover.
As a Urology Cancer CNS, you will support patients with suspected or confirmed urological cancers, including prostate, bladder, kidney, testicular and penile cancers. Acting as a key point of contact, you will provide specialist advice, emotional support, patient education and care coordination.
You will undertake holistic needs assessments, support patients to make informed decisions about treatment, coordinate cancer pathways and work closely with the wider multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality, personalised care.
The role includes contributing to service improvement, audit, clinical governance and quality initiatives that support safe, effective and evidence-based cancer care.
Previous CNS experience is desirable but not essential, as a structured training and development programme will be provided.
This is an excellent opportunity to gain specialist cancer nursing experience within a supportive team while making a real difference to patients affected by urological cancer.

Previous experience in cancer nursing, urology or a specialist nursing role is desirable but not essential. The Urology Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) is a key member of the multidisciplinary team, providing specialist nursing care, support, and advice to patients with suspected or confirmed urological cancers. The role focuses on delivering high-quality, patient-centred care throughout the cancer pathway, ensuring patients and their families receive timely information, emotional support, and guidance to make informed decisions about their care.
Acting as a consistent point of contact from diagnosis onwards, the CNS undertakes holistic assessment, care planning, implementation, and evaluation to address patients physical, psychological, emotional, and supportive care needs. Working closely with medical, nursing, and allied health professionals, the CNS coordinates care across services to ensure a seamless patient experience and optimal outcomes.
The role includes supporting patients through investigation, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up, advocating on their behalf, facilitating access to appropriate services, and communicating complex information in a clear and compassionate way. The CNS promotes personalised care and helps patients navigate their cancer journey.
The post holder contributes to service development, quality improvement, clinical governance, audit, and research activities, supporting evidence-based practice and continuous improvement within cancer services. They provide specialist expertise and advice to colleagues and play an important role in improving patient safety, experience, and clinical outcomes.
Working autonomously within agreed protocols and professional standards, the Urology Cancer CNS demonstrates advanced clinical judgement, excellent communication skills, and compassionate leadership to deliver safe, effective, and personalised cancer care.

Qualifications Essential
Registered Nurse with current NMC Evidence of ongoing professional development
Desirable
Degree in Nursing or equivalent experience. Post-registration qualification in cancer care, urology or related speciality Teaching and assessing qualification
Experience Essential
Post-registration experience within an acute healthcare setting. Experience of managing a caseload of patients with complex care needs. Experience of multidisciplinary team working Experience of patient assessment, care planning and coordination
