Job summary

This post is an important part of ourongoing development of General and Emergency Surgery at East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust and ispart of an expansion to meet the rising demand of General Surgery in our area. The successful applicantswill be offered the opportunity to work closely with the existing surgical consultants in the Trust to provide ahigh standard of care across the Trust. We are seeking consultants with enthusiasm, commitment, anddrive to work closely with colleagues throughout the organisation and within the community to help lead theorganisation.

Person Specification

Qualifications / Training Essential

Entry on GMC Specialist Register or, be within 6 months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at time of interview or, provide GMC confirmed eligibility for entry on the Specialist Register MBChB (or equivalent) qualification FRCS (or equivalent) qualification Licence to practice

Desirable

Postgraduate degree (or equivalent) related to General Surgery (e.g., Masters / MD / MRes / PhD etc)

Previous Experience Essential

Broad range of experience in General and Emergency Surgery Evidence of independent upper and/or lower gastrointestinal endoscopy practice Experience of supervising undergraduates, doctors in training and other colleagues Ability to offer and be accountable for full and independent expert diagnostic opinion Can evidence leading on patient safety issues and achieving a change in practice

Desirable

Experience of General and Emergency Surgery in UK Major Hospital Demonstrable General Surgery consultant level experience

Skills Essential

Able to evidence engagement with clinical governance and the identification of errors and the learning from errors Evidence engagement with appraisal and revalidation
