We are looking for a passionate and proficient scientist to join us in reliability research for power grid assets and systems. As part of our dynamic, motivated, and creative team, you will bridge theory and application through experimental research, developing, designing, testing, and validating novel methods and technologies to understand degradation mechanisms and improve the reliability of future power grid assets.

How you'll make an impact

You drive impact: Lead and contribute to cross-functional projects by focusing on the underlying physics of failure, ensuring that reliability enhancements for power grid assets are grounded in a deep understanding of how application stresses translate into real-world failure mechanisms. Design and execute experiments to investigate degradation and failure mechanisms under realistic operating conditionsYou innovate: Proactively seek out emerging knowledge in failure physics and develop novel experimental approaches to validate scientific hypotheses and improve system reliability, keeping the team at the cutting edge of reliability science and its practical applicationsYou take initiative: Collaborate with a global team of researchers and engineers in Hitachi Energy Research and Hitachi Energy business units. Help identify and solve real-world problems, inspire opportunities for further improvement, and contribute to accelerating the implementation of innovative technologiesYou connect: Build relationships within the company and actively share your knowledge and expertiseYou communicate: Disseminate your results through scientific publications, patent applications, and technical reports Your background

PhD in experimental physics, materials science, electrical engineering, or a related fieldExpertise in physics of failure, failure investigation, root-cause analysis, and reliability modeling, combined with strong data analysis skills and accurate interpretation of resultsHands-on experience in designing and conducting experiments, developing test methods, and using advanced materials characterization techniques to investigate degradation and failure mechanismsIndustry or post-doctoral experience in energy technology or related industries such as automotive, rail, aerospace, or telecommunications, with a focus on product reliability improvements, is a plusFluency in English, both written and spoken More about us
