About this role

Job Title: Care Resident

Reports To: The Care Resident will report to the Care Ministry Lead

Job Overview: The Care Team Resident will support Hill City Church’s objectives through the embodiment of the mission statement: Together, we love God, love others, and make disciples of Jesus Christ. As a resident, you will gain experience in various organizational and ministry aspects within Hill City Church's care team. This resident position will also assist in training, equipping and sending members of Hill City Church into our community and world to care for one another.

Responsibilities and Duties:

Sunday Responsibilities:

• Assist with setup and tear down of gathering area

• Be a welcoming presence for congregation

• Assist HC staff as needed

Care: 40%

Church-Wide Care:

• Assist with the coordination and follow-up of care needs across Hill City Church

• Connect with individuals and families experiencing illness, hospitalization, grief, major life transitions, or other care needs

• Help coordinate practical care, including meals, hospital care, funeral support, encouragement, and other needs as appropriate

• Support City Group leaders as they care for people within their groups by helping connect them with resources and additional support

• Assist with communication and coordination of Care Team volunteers

• Learn to recognize care needs that require pastoral involvement, professional counseling, community resources, or additional support and appropriately escalate those needs

• Assist with funerals, weddings, and other significant life events

• Serve on the Prayer Team and help cultivate a culture of prayer throughout Care Ministry

• Support staff care efforts surrounding significant life events, including births, marriages, hospitalizations, grief, and other needs

• Maintain appropriate confidentiality and documentation of care needs

• Assist with Care Ministry projects and initiatives as assigned

Care Teams:

• Build relationships with Care Team members and help encourage consistent follow-up and care

• Assist with Care Team gatherings, training, communication, and volunteer development

• Gain experience in equipping members of Hill City to care for one another

• Assist with additional Care Ministry projects as assigned

Counseling:

• Support Hill City's counseling partnership with Abundant Life Counseling

• Assist with communication, scheduling coordination, and facility needs related to the counseling partnership

• Help create a welcoming, organized, and supportive environment for counselors and clients

• Learn appropriate boundaries between pastoral/congregational care and professional counseling

• Assist with counseling-related projects as assigned

For the City: 40%

• Coordination of events for Outside Organizations and Non-profits in Springfield who desire to use Hill City Church as an event space

• Coordination of events for Covenant Members and Regular Attenders of Hill City Church who desire to use Hill City as an event space

• Day of Coordinating for events as needed

• Projects as assigned

Resident Requirements: 20%

• Create and complete a personalized development plan

• Participate in weekly team meetings, 1-on-1's, and scheduled meetings

• Creation of and semi-annual evaluation of 6-month plan

• Training, organizational development, and processes required of all staff & residents

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree or applicable experience, ministry, leadership, or relevant life experience

• Demonstrated commitment to serving through the local church

• Relationally mature and comfortable interacting with people experiencing difficult, sensitive, or significant life circumstances

• Able to maintain discretion, confidentiality, and appropriate relational boundaries

• Teachable and willing to receive feedback, coaching, and direction

• Organized and dependable with strong follow-through and attention to detail

• Self-motivated and able to take general direction, identify next steps, and complete responsibilities

• Able to communicate clearly and compassionately with staff, volunteers, congregants, and community partners

• Willing to work a flexible ministry schedule, including occasional evenings and weekends

• Become a Covenant Member / remain in good standing as a Covenant Member of Hill City Church

Hill City's Residency Program Mission & Vision:

Hill City’s Residency Program exists to train, equip and send leaders to serve the Church.

The hope for Hill City’s Residency Program is that adults who desire to explore vocational ministry will get the opportunity to do so within the local church. After their time in the Residency Program, residents will be better equipped to serve the Church - whether vocationally or through serving as a high capacity leader. The Residency Program will help each individual better understand what they are called to do and how God has gifted them for ministry. As they are sent out of the Residency Program, residents will have a clear vision of where they are going and will be equipped to be effective leaders in the Church for generations to come.
