Job Title: Hill City Kids Resident - NextUp! Ministry
Reports To: The Hill City Kids Resident will report to the Hill City Kids Director
Job Overview: The Hill City Kids Resident will support Hill City Church’s objectives through the embodiment of the mission statement: Together, we love God, love others, and make disciples of Jesus Christ. This role will include supporting volunteers, championing onboarding and early volunteer experiences, and owning a specific ministry environment, while learning how strong systems and intentional care help ministry grow in a healthy and sustainable way.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Sunday Responsibilities:
• Serve as the primary Sunday leader for the NextUp! (4/5th grade) ministry during gatherings
• Build meaningful relationships with NextUp! students, volunteers, and families, helping students feel known, welcomed, and cared for
• Support and encourage NextUp! volunteers by ensuring they feel prepared, supported, and confident in their role each week
• Partner with the HC Kids Director to support the health and growth of the NextUp! ministry and communicate needs, wins, and challenges
• Serve in a Sunday "Coordinator" role as needed, helping manage overall classroom flow and supporting volunteers and families across environments
NextUp! Ministry Support: 50%
• Serve as the primary point person for the NextUp! ministry during gatherings, owning the health and experience of this environment
• Build meaningful relationships with NextUp! students, volunteers, and families; helping students feel knows, welcomed, and cared for
• Partner with the HC Kids Director to support the health and growth of the NextUp! ministry and communicate needs, wins, or challenges
• Partner with the Elementary Coordinator to support NextUp! curriculum implementation, helping ensure lessons are prepared, communicated clearly to volunteers, and executed well on Sundays
• Help identify and implement simple processes that bring clarity and consistency to the NextUp! ministry
• Collaborate with Kids Team and The Current to help bridge the gap between the two ministries
Ministry Environment Support: 30%
• Help ensure ministry environments are prepared and welcoming each weekend
• Assist with simple systems that help volunteers care well for classrooms
• Assist with church-wide event childcare alongside the Kids Director, including helping recruit and support volunteers and ensuring a positive, well-organized experience for children and families
• Partner with Kids staff to maintain organized, functional spaces
• Support basic administrative needs related to ministry environments
Resident Requirements: 20%
• Create and complete personalized development plan
• Participate in weekly team meetings, 1-on-1's, and scheduled meetings
• Semi-annual evaluation of 6-month plan
• Training, organizational development, and processes required of all staff & residents
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience preferred
• Demonstrated experience serving in the local church, especially in Kids Ministry or volunteer-based environments
• Relational, encouraging presence with a heart for children, families, and volunteers
• Organized and dependable, able to follow existing systems and contribute to their ongoing improvement
• Self-motivated learned who is eager to grow, receive feedback, and develop ministry skills
• Able to take general direction and follow through with consistency and care
• Administrative gifting with the ability to support ministry through clear communication and organization
• Desire to grow in ministry leadership and teamwork within a church staff context
• Willingness to become a covenant member of Hill City Church and remain in good standing
Hill City's Residency Program Mission & Vision:
Hill City’s Residency Program exists to train, equip and send leaders to serve the Church.
The hope for Hill City’s Residency Program is that adults who desire to explore vocational ministry will get the opportunity to do so within the local church. After their time in the Residency Program, residents will be better equipped to serve the Church - whether vocationally or through serving as a high capacity leader. The Residency Program will help each individual better understand what they are called to do and how God has gifted them for ministry. As they are sent out of the Residency Program, residents will have a clear vision of where they are going and will be equipped to be effective leaders in the Church for generations to come.
