The Opportunity An established international renewable energy business is looking for an experienced HSE Team Manager to lead its UK-based site safety function.
You will manage and develop a team of HSE and CDM professionals working across major renewable energy construction projects. This is a hands-on leadership role combining team management, site assurance, incident oversight, regulatory compliance and the continued improvement of UK HSE systems.
The position is based at the company’s Surrey office and requires regular travel to project sites nationwide.
Key Responsibilities Lead, support and develop HSE and CDM Managers operating across UK project sitesSet clear expectations and ensure consistent standards of performance, compliance and reportingComplete regular site inspections, audits and unannounced compliance checksOversee incident investigations, corrective actions and lessons-learned processesConduct performance reviews and support the professional development of HSE team membersProvide HSE guidance during tenders, including PQQ, RFQ and ITT submissionsAssess client and employer requirements to identify project-specific HSE obligationsReview and update UK health, safety and environmental policies and proceduresMonitor changes to UK legislation and incorporate them into operational practicesSupport the business in achieving and maintaining relevant ISO accreditationsDevelop and deliver training for HSE/CDM Managers, Site Managers and Site SupervisorsPartner with project delivery and sustainability teams to improve standards across the UK portfolio About You You will be an experienced HSE professional with a strong understanding of safety management within construction, infrastructure or renewable energy projects.
You should have: A degree or recognised qualification in occupational health and safety or a related disciplineSeveral years’ experience in an HSE position within a site-based project environmentStrong knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and CDM requirementsPrevious experience leading, coordinating or developing an HSE teamPractical experience conducting inspections, managing incidents and producing HSE reportsThe confidence to challenge performance and hold teams accountableExperience developing and implementing HSE policies and proceduresStrong communication, organisation and stakeholder-management skillsA proactive and solutions-focused approachFull professional fluency in EnglishThe flexibility to travel regularly throughout the UK Experience within utility-scale solar, renewable energy or large construction projects would be highly advantageous. Knowledge of ISO certification and management systems would also be beneficial.
