Steel City General Practice is looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic salaried GP. We serve nearly15,000 patients across three well-established sites across Sheffield: Baslow Road, Darnall Hall and St Marys.

Main duties of the job

About the role

You' ll be a core part of our GP team, delivering a mix of face-to-face, telephone, and online consultations. As a training practice, wed love to support your development whether you're newly qualified or an experienced and looking to explore teaching, leadership, or a clinical specialism.

Duties include:

Routine and on-the-day appointments

Shared duty rota and contribution to home visiting

Triage day

Admin day

QOF, IIF, and CQC compliance support

Working closely with our wider PCN and community teams

Job description Job responsibilities

The post holder will work as part of the clinical team at Steel City General Practice, delivering safe, effective and patient-centred care across the practice population. The role will include a combination of routine clinical sessions, triage sessions, and admin/on-call support sessions in line with the practice rota and operational model.

The GP will be responsible for the assessment, diagnosis, treatment and ongoing management of patients presenting with a wide range of medical conditions, whilst contributing to the effective day-to-day running of the practice. The role requires strong clinical decision-making, good teamworking, and the ability to work efficiently within a busy multi-site GP environment.

The post holder will be expected to support the practice triage model by reviewing and actioning online requests submitted on the day, and to undertake allocated admin GP sessions which include management of pathology, correspondence, on-call tasks, and prescription-related queries.

Clinical Duties

Provide high-quality, evidence-based medical care to patients registered with the practice. Undertake face-to-face, telephone and online consultations as required. Assess, diagnose, treat and manage acute and chronic illness. Make appropriate referrals for investigations, secondary care, community services, and other agencies where required. Prescribe safely and appropriately in line with national and local guidance. Maintain accurate, contemporaneous and high-quality clinical records on SystmOne. Support continuity of care for patients where appropriate. Participate in safeguarding processes for children and adults in line with practice policy and statutory guidance. Respond to urgent clinical issues arising during the working day.On designated triage days, the GP will:

Review and process all online medical requests submitted on the day through the practices digital triage system. Clinically assess the urgency and most appropriate outcome for each patient request. Determine whether the patient requires: same-day contact, urgent face-to-face assessment, routine appointment, advice and guidance, onward referral, signposting to another suitable service. Contact patients by telephone where further history, clarification, or clinical assessment is needed. Arrange appointments appropriately in line with clinical need and practice capacity. Work closely with reception/care navigation and the wider clinical team to ensure patients are directed safely and efficiently. Support the smooth running of the same-day service and help manage clinical demand across the sites. Escalate urgent or complex presentations appropriately.On designated admin GP days, the GP will:

Process and action pathology results, ensuring appropriate review, coding, follow-up and communication with patients where required. Review and process incoming hospital letters, clinical correspondence and documents, taking appropriate action and ensuring coding and follow-up are completed. Manage on-call tasks allocated to the duty/admin GP, including clinical queries, workflow items and internal practice tasks requiring GP input. Review and authorise or action prescription queries, acute medication requests, and medication-related tasks in line with safe prescribing practice. Liaise with the wider multidisciplinary team regarding actions arising from letters, results, and tasks. Ensure urgent actions are prioritised and completed within appropriate timescales. Support safe workflow management and timely completion of GP administrative responsibilities.General Responsibilities

Work collaboratively with GP partners, salaried GPs, ANPs, nurses, pharmacists, HCAs, care coordinators, admin and reception teams. Contribute to practice meetings, clinical meetings, MDT discussions and significant event reviews. Participate in quality improvement activity, audits and service development where required. Support the practice in achieving contractual, quality and patient safety standards. Maintain awareness of and compliance with CQC standards, practice policies, and NHS contractual requirements. Participate in duty doctor / on-call arrangements as per rota. Undertake home visits when clinically appropriate and in line with practice arrangements. Support teaching and supervision of learners where appropriate. Maintain mandatory training and professional registration requirements.Professional Responsibilites

Work within the GMCs Good Medical Practice guidance. Maintain full registration and licence to practise with the GMC. Remain on the NHS Performers List. Participate in annual appraisal and revalidation. Maintain professional development and keep up to date with current clinical guidance and best practice. Ensure confidentiality is maintained at all times in accordance with GDPR, Caldicott principles, and practice policy.Team and Organisational Responsibilities

Promote a positive, respectful and supportive team culture. Work flexibly across Steel City General Practice sites if required. Support colleagues during periods of pressure and increased demand. Help embed practice systems and processes, including triage and workflow management, to improve patient care and operational efficiency. Raise concerns appropriately regarding patient safety, staffing pressures or service risks.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

Qualified General Practitioner with current GMC registration and licence to practise. Included on the NHS Performers List. Experience of working in general practice. Able to manage a broad range of clinical presentations safely and effectively. Good understanding of workload management, risk assessment and prioritisation. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team. Good IT skills and confidence using clinical systems, ideally SystmOne. Commitment to high standards of patient care, safety and professionalism.

Desirable

Desirable Experience of digital triage / online consultation systems. Experience of workflow management including pathology, correspondence and prescription queries. Experience of working across multiple sites. Interest in quality improvement, teaching, leadership, or service development.
