About this role

Job summary We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to join our team. As anAcute Medicine Secretary you would provide administrative and secretarial support to consultants, doctors, nurses, and the wider Acute Medicine team within a hospital setting. The role helps ensure patient information, appointments, correspondence, and clinical records are managed efficiently to support high-quality patient care.

Main duties of the job Providing secretarial support to Acute Medicine consultants and clinicians. Typing and processing clinic letters, discharge summaries, and medical reports. Managing diaries, meetings, and clinic schedules.Coordinating patient appointments and referrals. Handling telephone and email enquiries from patients, staff, and external organisations. Maintaining accurate patient records on hospital systems.Filing, scanning, and managing confidential documentation. Tracking investigations, results, and correspondence as directed. Supporting service audits, data collection, and reporting requirements. Liaising with GP surgeries, community services, and other hospital departments. A flexible approach to work is required and an ability to get on with others in a team based environment.

Qualifications Essential

Typing, Audio and Word/Text Processing skills to RSA III or equivalent knowledge acquired through further experience GCSE English Language Grade C or equivalent

Desirable

Medical secretary qualifications Shorthand minimum 90 wpm 4 GCSE Grade C or equivalent NVQ III or equivalent AMSPAR - Medical Terminology Certificate Stage 1 - Management Development or equivalent D32/33 Assessor Award or equivalent

Experience Essential

Recent Medical Secretarial experience Knowledge of medical terminology Knowledge of PAS Knowledge of 18 week RTT pathway

Knowledge, skills, aptitudes Essential

Ability to complete tasks accurately and efficiently. Ability to work on own initiative and prioritise workload to achieve deadlines. Good written and verbal communication skills. Competent Microsoft Word User. Ability to communicate and work in a team Awareness and Knowledge of the dignity in care agenda. Ability to evidence/demonstrate key values and behaviours in line with the Trust framework
