About this role

Job summary

We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic, innovative, and progressive Clinical Research Fellow to join the Research and Development department. The appointee will work at both the Midland Metropolitan University Hospital as well as the Clinical Research Facility at the Sandwell Health Campus. Here they will work with the research team to deliver both innovative clinical trials and qualitative research. This job is for fixed term of one year, starting in August-September 2026. The post will give the candidate the opportunity to deliver both academic and commercial research studies in a range of disease areas which have international researchers in the Trust including lipids, cardiology, rheumatology, and respiratory. The postholder willsupport Principal Investigators and work alongside the research delivery team to enhance recruitment, and deliver safe patient care and high-quality data.

Main duties of the job

The post will enable the successful applicant to develop clinical research delivery skills. The appointee will complete NIHR Good Clinical Practice (GCP) training and support clinical research trials across a broad portfolio. There are no fixed clinical duties. Main duties include assessing and recruiting patients for clinical studies, carrying out patient visits, clinical assessment, training and dealing with research related issues as appropriate Research training will be given to support the postholder

This post is a fixed term post for a period of 1 year and will commence in late 2026. This post is suitable for those candidates who have completed their internal medical training (IMT3) or are currently a specialist registrar (medical professional), with some experience of research within the NHS, who wish to progress in their medical career, but do not have a higher degree (MD or PhD) already. This post provides an opportunity of conducting research in a wide range of fields of medicine with exposure to specialist areas such as clinical trials. The candidate will be encouraged to undertake further research training

A dedicated 10 clinic room, research facility, hosts and supports a number of Out Patient Clinics including but not limited to:

Lipids

Weight Management

Cardiovascular

Rheumatology

General Practice

Heam-oncology

The Trust Research team are also fully embedded within the ICU, surgical and Respiratory teams as well as that of maternity services. Research is also undertaken at City Health Campus across ophthalmology, rheumatology, immunology and diabetes
