University of Maryland Medical Center Midtown Campus has had a long history of working to keep our community healthy. Located in Baltimore’s cultural center near the historic Mount Vernon neighborhood, UMMC Midtown Campus is a 200-bed non-profit, community teaching hospital, and part of the University of Maryland Medical System. Shift: Monday - Friday (6:30am - 3:00pm, rotating schedule)

General Summary The anesthesia aide/technician is an integral member of Perioperative & Procedural Care Svcs and Operating Room team, and reports directly to the Supervisor Anesthesia Technician and the Director of Perfusion & Support Services. The technician provides support functions to assist licensed anesthesia providers in the acquisition, preparation and application of equipment and supplies required for the administration of anesthesia. The individual will be responsible for the anesthesia room turnover, cleaning and disinfecting of the anesthesia equipment and ancillary devices to continuously maintain safe and proper work environment. On a regular basis, the technician will interact with professional staff members in various departments within the institution. The technician will always function in a manner which supports and maintains the policies, procedures and standards of Perioperative & Procedural Care Svcs. Principal Responsibilities and Tasks The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job duties performed by personnel so classified.

• Cleans and disinfects anesthesia machines, monitors and reusable equipment ( i.e. lead wires, pressure cables, oximeter cables, etc.) per manufacturer recommendation and infection control policies. • Stocks and maintains all anesthesia carts and supply cabinets per departmental specification. • Performs quality assurance as part of daily anesthesia machine checkout. • Reviews schedule regularly to identify plan and provide for special anesthesia needs including but not limited to setup for invasive monitoring, blood fluid warming, IV infusion pumps, bronchoscopy cart for difficult intubation and jet ventilation. • Assists anesthesia and/or nursing team with transporting patients and equipment to and from the operating room. • Assists anesthesia and/or nursing staff in positioning patients for general and regional anesthesia. • Assists anesthesia staff as needed in difficult airway management. • Assists anesthesia team with patient laboratory tests and results including but not limited to ABGs , ACT, PT, INR, Chem-8 and other point of care testing. • Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, quality improvement, safety, environmental and infection control standards. • Cooperates with other personnel to achieve departmental and inter-departmental objectives and maintains good employee relations. • Ability to demonstrate initiative and proactively diagnose and resolve problems. Ability to demonstrate speed and timeliness in all duties. • Ability to respond and/or assist in emergency procedures and situations immediately and competently (e.g. cardiac arrest, difficult airway, malignant hyperthermia etc) • Maintains effective verbal communication in a courteous, respectful manner with patients and their families, to include internal and external customers. • Verbally and in writing, communicates all pertinent information and requests through established organizational channels. • Ability to establish and maintain courteous and effective relationships with patients, visitors, co-workers and medical staff and demonstrate sensitivity and awareness of patient needs. • High School Diploma or equivalent is required. • CPR certification is required. • Six months clinical healthcare experience (PCT, CNA, MA, EMT, etc.) or equivalent preferred.
