Job Title: TechnicianJob DescriptionThis role involves working both in the shop and in the field to perform general labor, construction, and installation of metal and steel parts and panels for a variety of customers. You will assist in building, assembling, and preparing architectural, ornamental, and decorative metalwork, using hand tools, power tools, and basic machinery. The position requires flexibility to work indoors and outdoors, travel to different job sites, and shift between shop-based tasks and field installations as needed.Responsibilities
• Work in both the shop and the field performing general labor, construction, and installation duties related to metal and steel parts and panels. • Assist in building and assembling metal and steel panels for various customers, including architectural, ornamental, and decorative metalwork. • Use hand tools, power tools, and basic machinery such as grinders, sanders, saws, and cutting tools to work with metal, wood, and other raw materials. • Accurately read and use a tape measure and combo squares to mark, measure, and verify dimensions for fabrication and installation. • Operate saws and other cutting tools, including band saws and table saws, to cut wood, sheet metal, and other materials to specified sizes. • Perform grinding, polishing, and sanding of metal components to achieve required finishes and prepare parts for installation or further fabrication. • Carry out general clean-up of the facility to maintain a safe, organized, and efficient work area. • Crate parts and components, including building wooden crates, to prepare materials for shipping or transport. • Properly load and unload trucks, ensuring materials are secured and handled safely. • Lift and move materials weighing 50 pounds or more, often in a hot environment and in both indoor and outdoor settings. • Wrap pallets and apply shrink wrap to secure materials and finished products for storage or shipment. • Perform sanding and prepping of metal surfaces prior to finishing or installation. • Work as a shop hand, supporting production, cutting, grinding, sanding, and general labor tasks as needed. • Travel to various job sites using your own vehicle when required, and perform installation and labor tasks on location. • Participate in forklift training and obtain certification upon becoming a permanent employee, then safely operate forklifts as needed. Essential Skills
• Ability to accurately read and use a tape measure, with strong proficiency in measuring and marking materials. • Experience using hand tools and power tools, including grinders, sanders, saws, and other cutting tools. • Capability to use saws and other cutting tools to cut wood and other raw materials to precise dimensions. • Familiarity with chop saws, sanders, and other electric tools used in fabrication and finishing. • Ability to use combo squares and similar measuring tools for layout and alignment. • Basic blueprint reading skills to understand fabrication and installation requirements. • Experience working with sheet metal and other metal materials in a production or labor environment. • Ability to perform grinding, polishing, and sanding on metal surfaces. • Capacity to lift 50+ pounds safely and repeatedly, including in hot conditions. • Willingness to train on a forklift and obtain certification upon becoming a permanent employee. • Ability to properly load and unload trucks, including securing and handling materials safely. • Skill in pallet wrapping and shrink wrapping to prepare materials and products for storage or transport. • Reliability in performing general labor tasks such as landscaping-type work, cutting, grinding, sanding, and assisting welders. • Must have a personal vehicle for transportation to and from the shop and job sites as needed. • Comfort working in both indoor and outdoor environments, including at various construction and installation sites. Additional Skills & Qualifications
• Experience as a welder helper, shop hand, or in similar metal fabrication or construction support roles. • Experience in production, landscaping, or general labor environments involving hand and power tools. • Exposure to architectural, ornamental, or decorative metalwork is a plus. • Ability to perform general facility clean-up and basic maintenance tasks. • Experience with crating parts, including building crates out of wood, is beneficial. • Willingness to cross-train into other roles such as welding and glazing over time. • Comfort working without air conditioning in a shop environment. • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety when working with tools, machinery, and heavy materials. The shop does not have air conditioning, so you should be comfortable working in hot conditions. The standard schedule runs approximately from 5:00 AM to 3:30 PM, with significant overtime available; you should be willing to work 10-hour days when needed. Work is performed using a variety of hand and power tools, grinders, sanders, saws, and basic machinery, with tasks ranging from fabrication to installation at active construction and commercial sites. Job locations may include major projects in areas such as North Phoenix, Old Town Scottsdale hotels and resorts, downtown Tempe student housing and hotels, and downtown Phoenix. Steel-toe footwear and long pants are required from day one, and shorts are not permitted in the shop or on job sites. The environment is fast-paced, physically demanding, and safety-focused, offering diverse experiences across shop and field settings. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Phoenix, AZ. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
