Job Title: Civil LaborerJob DescriptionThe Civil Laborer supports excavation and civil construction activities on an open farmland job site, primarily assisting with trenching for underground utilities and installation of perimeter fencing. This role works closely with excavator and mini excavator operators, follows direction from foremen and leads, and helps maintain a clean, safe, and compliant work area in all weather conditions. Responsibilities • Assist excavator and mini excavator operators with digging trenches for underground utilities, ensuring trenches meet depth, alignment, and safety requirements. • Support operators in pile driving posts for perimeter fencing, including staging materials, positioning posts, and monitoring work areas for safety. • Help install fencing after posts are driven, including handling panels or wire, securing components, and verifying alignment and stability. • Follow directions from foremen, operators, and leads, responding promptly to instructions and adapting to changing site needs. • Maintain a safe and clean job site by removing debris, organizing tools and materials, and keeping work areas clear of hazards. • Assist with dewatering activities by removing collected water from trenches caused by rain or snow, using pumps or other dewatering equipment as directed. • Operate or assist with civil construction equipment such as skid steers and trenching tools under supervision and in accordance with safety protocols. • Continuously monitor surroundings and communicate effectively with team members to prevent incidents in a busy, high-activity construction environment. • Comply with OSHA safety standards and site-specific safety procedures, including the proper use of personal protective equipment and adherence to all safety briefings and instructions. • Demonstrate professional appearance and behavior in accordance with the site code of conduct, including punctuality, respectful communication, and teamwork. • Work extended hours as required, including 10-hour days Monday through Friday and 8-hour shifts on Saturdays, as weather and project demands allow. • Remain open and adaptable to working different shifts, including potential first and second shift assignments as project needs evolve. Essential Skills • Valid driver's license. • OSHA 10 certification at minimum. • Previous traveling work experience for candidates who will travel to the job site. • Willingness and ability to work flexible shifts, including potential first and second shifts. • Ability to commit to a work schedule of approximately 58 or more hours per week, including 10-hour days Monday through Friday and 8 hours on Saturday, as weather permits. • Ownership and use of steel toe boots and other required personal protective equipment. • Capability to work outdoors in varying and sometimes extreme weather conditions, including hot, humid summers and cold, snowy winters. • Strong communication skills to coordinate with operators, foremen, and other crew members in a busy construction environment. • Ability to follow directions accurately and work as part of an all-hands-on-deck team. • Commitment to working safely and adhering to OSHA and site-specific safety protocols. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Experience working on civil construction sites, particularly those involving trenching and underground utilities. • Familiarity with skid steer operation or working around heavy equipment in a safe and controlled manner. • Experience assisting with pile driving and fence installation on construction or agricultural sites. • Comfort working in remote or open farmland environments with limited shelter. • Strong situational awareness and the ability to remain focused without distraction in high-activity work zones. Work EnvironmentThe work takes place on an open farmland civil construction site in Monrovia, Indiana, fully exposed to the region’s weather conditions. Summers are typically hot and humid with a high likelihood of pop-up thunderstorms, while winters can bring cold rain, freezing rain, snow, wind, and periods of extreme cold. The environment is busy and dynamic, with significant activity from heavy equipment such as excavators, mini excavators, skid steers, and trenching machinery. The site follows rigorous safety protocols in line with OSHA standards, and distracted operation of equipment or inattentiveness to surroundings is not tolerated. Work hours generally consist of 10-hour days Monday through Friday and 8-hour days on Saturday, resulting in a 58+ hour work week when weather allows, and shift assignments may include first or second shift depending on project needs. Professional appearance and behavior are expected at all times, in accordance with the site code of conduct, and steel toe boots and appropriate personal protective equipment are required while on site. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Mooresville, IN. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $26.00 - $26.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
