Job Title: Soldering TechnicianJob DescriptionThe Soldering Technician assembles and reworks electronic circuit boards by performing both surface-mount (SMT) and thru-hole soldering, as well as mechanical assembly of printed circuit boards. This role focuses on high-quality electronic assembly, including soldering components and wires, working with multi-layer boards, and using microscopes and visual aids to ensure precise, reliable results. Responsibilities • Solder electronic components onto printed circuit boards (PCBs) using both surface-mount (SMT) and thru-hole soldering techniques. • Perform mechanical assembly of boards, including electromechanical assembly and related hardware installation. • Work on 16-layer boards approximately 24 inches in size, handling boards that initially weigh 45–50 lbs and gain additional weight during processing. • Lift, turn, and rework boards on both the top and bottom sides as required by the production process. • Use a microscope periodically throughout the day to inspect solder joints, components, and fine-pitch assemblies for quality and accuracy. • Solder wires of various gauges onto assemblies, following wiring lists, blueprints, and other visual aids. • Perform rework on PCBs, including surface-mount and thru-hole rework, in accordance with IPC-610 and J-Standard requirements. • Crimp, wire, and assemble electronic and electromechanical components in line with documented procedures and standards. • Interpret and follow visual aids, wiring diagrams, blueprints, and work instructions to complete assemblies correctly. • Maintain a clean and organized individual workbench and use assigned tools and equipment safely and effectively. • Adhere to established quality standards, including IPC-610 and J-Standard, and report any defects or issues in a timely manner. • Collaborate with team members in a large production environment to meet output, quality, and schedule expectations. • Train on an earlier shift as required, then transition to and consistently work the assigned second shift schedule. Essential Skills • At least 2 years of experience soldering components on circuit boards, or completion of a relevant vocational program. • Proficiency in thru-hole soldering and surface-mount (SMT) soldering on PCBs. • Knowledge of IPC-610 and J-Standard requirements, with current or expired certifications accepted. • Ability to understand and follow visual aids, wiring lists, blueprints, and written work instructions. • Experience with electronic assembly, including surface-mount technology, soldering, crimping, wiring, and electromechanical assembly. • Capability to perform PCB rework, including surface-mount and thru-hole rework, to established quality standards. • Comfort using microscopes for detailed inspection of solder joints and small electronic components. • Physical ability to lift and maneuver boards weighing up to 50 lbs repeatedly during the workday. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Experience working with multi-layer PCBs and large-format boards. • Familiarity with electronic and electromechanical assembly processes in a production environment. • Ability to work independently at a dedicated workbench while contributing to a larger team of technicians. • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, reliable electronic assemblies. • Willingness and flexibility to train on a first shift or mid shift (with 11:00 a.m. as the latest start time) before moving to second shift. Work EnvironmentThe role is based in a very clean production environment with a team of approximately 50 people. Each technician has an individual workbench equipped with the necessary tools and equipment to perform soldering, rework, and assembly tasks. Work is performed on multi-layer, large-format PCBs using microscopes and standard electronic assembly tools. The position is on second shift, running from 2:45 p.m. to 11:15 p.m., with the requirement to train initially on a first shift or mid shift (with 11:00 a.m. as the latest start time) before transitioning to the regular second shift schedule. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Minneapolis, MN. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $23.00 - $28.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
