Job Summary The Research Assistant will provide research support to the Cardiac Surgery Research Program at the Centre for Cardiovascular Innovation. The position will support clinical outcomes research within Cardiac Surgery research.

Organizational Status The Research Assistant reports to principal investigators in the Cardiac Surgery Research Program and the Senior Manager, Research Operations. The role will collaborate with other staff to support and fulfill the operational requirements of the research centre.

Work Performed -Assists with routine tasks in the maintenance of project databases, including entering data and exporting reports -Performs data entry into electronic databases following clearly defined procedures. -Provides general assistance with research activities as directed, such as the basic formatting of project lists, posters, and manuscripts. -Assists with the routine administrative aspects of research grant applications, including collecting required documentation and performing simple formatting of application packages -Performs other related duties as required in keeping with the qualifications and requirements of this classification

Consequence of Error/Judgement The incumbent is expected to work independently and within a team and exercising sound judgment. Errors in performing the above duties could significantly impact research projects and outcomes. The role requires managing time sensitive tasks with deadlines; failures to meet these deadlines may negatively affect the research program, funding opportunities and internal and external relationships. A high degree of accuracy, a thorough understanding of policies and procedures, and the ability to anticipate, investigate, and resolve issues, and the ability to meet conflicting demands are expected.

Supervision Received Works under the general supervision of the principal investigators and the Senior Manager, Research Operations.

Supervision Given Explains procedures to new or inexperienced research staff.

Minimum Qualifications High school graduation and a minimum one year of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications -Experience in clinical research and database management. - Demonstrated knowledge of research ethics including research confidentiality and privacy. - Immediate proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel). - Ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail. - Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. - Highly effective interpersonal and organizational skills. - Ability to multi-task and prioritize work to meet deadlines. -Ability to work effectively independently and in a team environment.
