Summary of Job Duties: *This is a part-time temporary position*
The Student Center Assistant is a student employee who assists the Student Services Manager with the daily operations, maintenance, and management of the Student Center. The assistant works up to 20 hours per week assisting in the development, coordination, and facilitation of Student Center and campus-wide student events; the maintenance and updates of departmental logs, records, and files; and serves as a student ambassador for the campus. The Student Center Assistant reports directly to the Student Center Manager and indirectly to the Campus Life Assistant Director. Qualifications:
• Must be a current UAMS student in one of the six UAMS colleges. • Student must be available for employment for two semesters upon initial hire. • Student must not be employed in any other UAMS department or lab. • All employment positions within the Campus Life department are interrelated. Consequently, disciplinary action received while employed may impact academic and employment status with the University, including discharge. • Student is expected to place the position as one of their highest priorities. Concurrent employment with another UAMS entity is strictly prohibited. A student may work no more than 20 hours per week.
Responsibilities:
• Answer phone inquiries and assist with campus directions & questions. • Assists with opening and closing the Student Center and after hours when special events are scheduled. • Maintain and update office records, logs, and recognized student organization files. • Perform a variety of daily cleaning duties, including detailing, vacuuming, cleaning tables, and trash removal. • Ensure the building is secure at the end of the day by locking all doors and making sure there are no safety hazards. • Report all safety hazards and maintenance concerns. • Assist the student center manager with promoting Campus Life student activities, events, and initiatives. • Assist with scheduling, set-up, and facilitation of Center events and activities. • Facilitate after-hour events and activities at the Center. • Design and distribute advertising materials (flyers, emails, & social media). • Represent Campus Life at various functions and events (orientation & information tables, special events on & off campus) • Assist the manager with developing new student initiatives, including gathering information on available campus and community services and resources to be used in future planning. • Greet students, employees, and guests at the Center. • Develop the capacity to listen and understand, and to be flexible and open-minded in responding to student needs and concerns. • Interprets and enforces policies and procedures associated with the Student Center. • Refer appropriately to departmental, campus, and community resources. • Maintain familiarity with the locations and operations of the department, campus, and organizations (e.g., Parking lot, ED West, ED II, Parking deck, Main Hospital, etc.) and make referrals when appropriate. • Serves as a student ambassador and should present a positive attitude and example with regard to responsible behavior in accordance with the basic Code of Conduct guidelines. Student Center Assistant is issued a Sub-Master Key and loss or misuse of the key may be considered cause for termination of employment and other disciplinary actions. • May perform other duties as assigned.
