About this role

Job summary

We are looking for a motivated and reliable Dispenser to join our expanding dispensary team. As our service continues to grow, we are seeking someone with excellent attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to work effectively as part of a supportive team. Ideally, candidates will hold an NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent) in Pharmacy Services; however, we are happy to provide training for an exceptional candidate who demonstrates the right attitude and willingness to learn. The successful candidate should also be willing to work occasional overtime to support ongoing service provision when required.21 Hour over the following periods:

Monday 9am until 2pm

Tuesday 1pm until 5.30pm

Wednesday 1pm until 5pm

Friday 9.00am until 6.30pm (1 hour unpaid lunch break)

Main duties of the job

Job Summary: The postholder will be responsible for the safe and accurate dispensing of medications to patients in line with practice protocols, legal requirements, and NHS guidelines. The role also involves supporting the smooth running of the dispensary, maintaining stock levels, and delivering excellent patient care.

We operate from two sites with clinical functions being split across the main Medical Centre site and our premises within the Ellen Badger Hospital. Admin functions are centralised at the Medical Centre site in the main.

Key Responsibilities:

Dispensing duties

Actively prepare and dispense prescriptions under GP authorisationUtilise software use for processing prescriptions, and ensure all dispensing processes comply with legal, ethical, and professional standards.Label, check and hand out medications to patients with appropriate advice, process repeat prescriptions in line with practice procedures, identify and escalate any prescription queries or discrepancies.

Patient interaction

Provide clear instructions to patients regarding their medicationRespond to patient queries in a professional and courteous mannerMaintain confidentiality at all times.

Stock control and administration

Assist with ordering, receiving, and checking pharmaceutical stockMonitor stock levels and expiry datesEnsure proper storage of medications, including controlled drugsMaintain accurate records in line with dispensary requirements.

Clinical Governance and compliance

Adhere to all safety legislation (e.g. Medicines Act and Health and Safety at Work Act)Follow practice policies, SOPs, and infectious control procedures.Participate in audits and quality improvement activitiesReport incidents, errors, and near misses in line with practice policy.Teamworking

Person Specification

Experience Essential

Experience working in a dispensary, pharmacy or GP practice or other related environment. Strong attention to detail and accuracy Good communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work independently as part of the team Basic IT skills. Commitment to confidentiality and data protection Flexible approach to working hours Willingness to undertake training and continuous professional development

Desirable

Experience using clinical systems such as EMIS and Titan Knowledge and experience of repeat prescribing systems Good understanding of dispensing processes and medication safety

Qualifications Desirable

NVQ level 2/3 in pharmacy services or equivalent
