This is a post based at the Countess of Chester Hospital and Ellesmere Port Hospital.
Additional PAs may be available subject to job plan agreement / participation in out of hours Rota and needs of the service. The post holder will support on the Medicine Registrar on-call Rota.
The successful applicant will be working alongside four other specialty doctors in a rotational post. The post rotates through an Acute Medical Unit (AMU), Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) and ED Medical. They will assist the Acute Medical team in the care of in-patients and assessing and reviewing patients. The department is committed to supporting our speciality doctors' career pathways either through membership qualifications or CESR.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be appointed to work within the Acute Medicine team, providing Specialty Doctor support across the Acute Medical Unit (AMU) and acute take. Consideration will be given to applicants wishing to work part-time or on a job-share basis.
The principal duties and responsibilities of the post are listed below:
Assess and manage new patients presenting to the acute medical take. Provide ongoing assessment and management of patients admitted to the Acute Medical Unit. Undertake daily ward rounds and review patients' progress, investigations and treatment plans. Manage patients with a range of acute and complex medical conditions, escalating to the Consultant Physician where appropriate. Support the Consultant-led ward rounds and contribute to clinical decision-making. Develop and review appropriate investigation and management plans, including discharge planning and onward referrals. Provide on-call support for the acute medical take, contributing to the safe and effective flow of patients through the acute pathway. Work collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary team to support timely assessment, treatment and discharge. Participate in the relevant GIM/Acute Medicine on-call rota, as required. The post holder will have access to shared office accommodation, computer facilities and appropriate administrative/secretarial support.

Person Specification
Qualifications and Training Essential
A Medical degree or Diploma, acceptable by the General Medical Council i.e. MBBS or equivalent. Shall have full registration and a licence to practice with the GMC at time of appointment. Evidence of achievement of Foundation competences as per UKFPO affiliated Foundation Programme or equivalent by time of appointment in line with GMC standards/ Good Medical Practice At least one of ATLS, ALS or APLS
Desirable
Further ATLS/ALS, APLS or PALS provider GIC/Instructor status in one of the above A Medical degree or Diploma, acceptable by the General Medical Council i.e. MBBS or equivalent.
Previous Experience/Entry Criteria Essential
Experience of working within an NHS Acute Medical Department. Completed at least four years' full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis) at least two of which will be in a specialty training programme in a relevant specialty or as a fixed term specialty trainee in a relevant specialty; or shall have equivalent experience and competencies. 12 months experience in Medicine. Evidence that career progression is consistent with personal circumstances. Evidence that present achievement and performance is commensurate with totality of period of training.

Experience of audit or research.
