Job summary

Working Full time: 37.5 hours per week

This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join the Pharmacy Supply Services team here at the Countess of Chester Hospital as an Assistant Technical Officer. The role involves supporting the efficient running of a busy Pharmacy Stores service and contributing to the delivery of a high-quality pharmaceutical and stock management system within the department and the wider hospital.

The post holder will be expected to have a friendly and approachable attitude, with the ability to work flexibly and both independently and as part of a team. Strong communication skills are essential, along with good computer literacy to support accurate record keeping and stock control processes.

The post holder will work closely with the Procurement, Distribution, and Dispensary teams to ensure the efficient receipt and organisation of goods within the Pharmacy department.

Main duties of the job

To be responsible for issuing, distribution and stock-control of Top Up Medicines for Wards and Departments across the Trust.

To receive, unpack and check all orders received into the Pharmacy Stores from wholesalers and other companies; ensure they are stored correctly following the principles of Good Distribution Practice

To participate in the Pharmacy stock-control programme investigating discrepancies, maintaining and rotating stock and ensuring waste is kept to a minimum.

To participate in the secure delivery of pharmacy stock to all clinical areas within the Trust.

To be responsible for accuracy checking of ward stock top up including the drug's strength, formulation, pack size, expiry date and quantity, in line with departmental procedures, prior to delivery.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

English & Maths GCSE grade C or above or equivalent qualification NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services

Knowledge and Experience Essential

Experience in a Pharmacy setting receiving and issuing medicines. Knowledge of medicines

Desirable

Experience in Hospital Pharmacy services including ward top up, stock taking, and stock control. Knowledge/experience of Pharmacy robot and computer systems

Skills and Abilities Essential

Excellent organisational and time management skills
