Job Title: Elementary Teacher - Title I Supplemental ELA (.5 FTE)- Holland Elementary Department: Learning - Elementary Pay Grade: Teacher's Salary Schedule FLSA Status: Exempt Reports to: School Principal “These vacancies are based on caseload and posting of vacancies and will be dependent upon confirmed enrollment.” GENERAL PURPOSE The Supplemental English Language Arts (ELA) Teacher provides targeted, supplemental literacy instruction to elementary students who demonstrate a need for additional academic support in reading, writing, and other English Language Arts skills. The position works collaboratively with classroom teachers, intervention staff, and building administrators to identify student needs, provide evidence-based instruction, monitor student progress, and adjust instructional supports based on student performance. Instruction provided by the Supplemental ELA Teacher is designed to supplement, not replace, the core English Language Arts instruction students receive in the general education classroom. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Supplemental ELA Instruction
• Provide supplemental English Language Arts instruction to identified students individually and/or in small groups.
• Deliver targeted instruction in phonemic and phonological awareness, phonics, word recognition, decoding and encoding, reading fluency, vocabulary, reading comprehension, written expression, and other grade-level ELA skills identified through student data.
• Use evidence-based literacy practices and district-approved instructional resources aligned with the Missouri Learning Standards and district curriculum.
• Develop and implement targeted instructional plans based on identified student needs.
Student Data & Progress Monitoring
• Review universal screening, diagnostic, classroom, and assessment data to identify specific areas of student need.
• Maintain accurate records of students receiving supplemental services, including daily attendance and participation.
• Conduct and document ongoing progress monitoring to determine student response to instruction.
• Analyze progress-monitoring data and adjust the frequency, intensity, group size, or instructional approach as appropriate.
Collaboration & Program Implementation
• Collaborate with classroom teachers and other instructional staff to coordinate supplemental services with core classroom instruction.
• Participate in building-level collaborative teams, data teams, Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), or intervention teams as assigned.
• Communicate student progress and instructional needs with classroom teachers, administrators, and other appropriate staff.
• Assist with the selection and implementation of evidence-based instructional strategies and interventions.
• Provide services consistent with the school's approved Title I program and use student data and identified academic need to guide supplemental services.
• Ensure Title I-funded services supplement the school's regular instructional program.
Professional Learning & Documentation
• Participate in required professional learning related to literacy instruction, intervention, assessment, and Title I programming.
• Maintain documentation necessary to demonstrate implementation of Title I-funded supplemental instructional services, including students served, services provided, daily attendance/service records, and regular progress monitoring.
• Complete documentation necessary for district, state, and federal program monitoring and compliance.
• Perform other duties related to supplemental English Language Arts instruction as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS Education and Experience
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
• Experience providing elementary reading, literacy, or English Language Arts instruction, preferred.
• Experience providing small-group or targeted academic intervention, preferred.
• Experience administering and interpreting literacy assessments and progress-monitoring measures, preferred.
• Experience using student achievement data to plan and adjust instruction, preferred.
• Experience working in a Title I school or with students requiring additional academic support, preferred.
Certificates, Licenses and Other Special Requirements
• Valid Missouri teaching certificate appropriate for the grade level(s) and instructional assignment served by the position.
• For students in Grades 1-6, a Missouri Elementary Education (Grades 1-6) teaching certificate is appropriate.
• For assignments serving students within Birth-Grade 3, a valid Missouri Early Childhood Education (Birth-Grade 3) certificate may be appropriate when the certificate covers the students and assignment being served.
• Other valid Missouri teaching certificates may be accepted when DESE determines that the certificate appropriately covers the grade level and instructional assignment.
• Must meet all Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education requirements applicable to the teaching assignment.
• A Special Reading/Reading Specialist certificate is not required solely because the employee provides supplemental ELA or literacy instruction, provided the employee holds a valid Missouri teaching certificate that appropriately covers the grade level and instructional assignment.
• If the position is established, assigned, or reported as a Special Reading/Reading Specialist position rather than a Supplemental ELA Teacher, additional DESE certification requirements may apply.
• Must pass a Criminal Background Clearance, the results of which must be satisfactory to the district, required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Knowledge of evidence-based reading instruction and the science of reading.
• Knowledge of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) and/or Response to Intervention (RTI).
• Ability to use screening, diagnostic, classroom, assessment, and progress-monitoring data to identify student needs and adjust instruction.
• Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with classroom teachers, intervention staff, administrators, and other appropriate staff.
• Ability to maintain accurate student attendance, participation, service, and progress-monitoring records.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality; set priorities; meet deadlines and schedules; work with detailed information; and adapt to changing priorities.
• Ability to work as part of a team and apply data-based decision-making to improve student outcomes.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
• Work environment is primarily inside, where the noise and temperature levels are moderate.
• The work is light work that requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects.
• Must possess the physical ability to perceive the nature of sounds, make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes, express or exchange ideas by the spoken word, substantial movements (motions) with the hands, wrists, and/or fingers, and discern letters or numbers at a given distance.
• Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, manual dexterity, mental acuity, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity and walking.
