GENERAL DESCRIPTION Responsible for drawing blood samples from patients for laboratory testing, transfusions, research, or donations. They play a critical role in ensuring accurate collection, labeling, and handling blood specimens while maintaining a safe and comfortable environment for patients.
JOB DESCRIPTION Clinical & Operations
• Perform phlebotomy on patients and assist with specimen collection. • Manage blood transfusion services, including handling blood requests and investigating adverse reactions. • Obtain, test, and report specimens promptly and accurately. • Operate and maintain laboratory instruments, analyzers, and manual techniques relevant to the specialty. • Ensure 24/7 laboratory services and maintain patient safety standards. • Report and document all accidents or incidents to the Lab Manager. • Promote and ensure compliance with patient safety and rights. • Utilize hospital and laboratory information systems effectively. • Contribute to reviewing and updating laboratory policies and procedures. • Assist in implementing quality assurance systems to ensure efficient laboratory services. Staff Development
• Take responsibility for personal professional growth through training and development. • Stay updated on modern laboratory diagnostic techniques and ensure continuous skill improvement. • Assist in developing and implementing training protocols for junior staff. • Supervise and support Lab Assistants, Clerks, and other team members. • Help plan, conduct, and evaluate staff orientation and in-service training programs. • Collect and provide accurate statistical data for management and quality improvement initiatives. • Comply with standards such as ISO, MSQH, JCI, and occupational safety and health regulations. • Minimize environmental impact by adhering to waste management and pollution control measures. • Use personal protective equipment and follow safety protocols to ensure a safe working environment.
