About this role

Job summary

The Acute Paediatric Liaison Health Visitor is a Registered Nurse with Specialist Community Public Health Nursing (Health Visitor) qualification who works within the acute hospital setting at Croydon University Hospital.

The post holder provides a safeguarding and public health interface between Emergency Department, paediatric and maternity services, and community 0-19 Public Health Nursing services. The role focuses on early identification of vulnerability, safeguarding risk assessment, timely information sharing and early intervention for children and young people aged 0-19 years, including unborn babies.

The post holder will be a visible expert safeguarding resource across the Emergency Department and wider acute services, supporting staff through advice, training, and professional guidance, ensuring safeguarding practice is consistent with national guidance, local procedures, and Croydon Health Services Trust policy.

Main duties of the job

To review and assess Emergency Department attendances for children and young people aged 0-19 years, identifying safeguarding concerns, vulnerabilities, and unmet health needs.

To review, process and document emergency department attendances and safeguarding referrals, ensuring timely and appropriate information sharing with 0-19 public health nursing teams, Paediatrics, Maternity and Safeguarding services.

To function as a visible safeguarding presence within the emergency Department, providing advice, support, and expert guidance to acute clinical staff. To identify unusual presentations, patterns of attendance and safeguarding risks, escalating concerns in line with local safeguarding procedures.

To promote a Think Family, trauma-informed and non-stigmatising approach when working with children, young people, parents, and carers. To promote health promotion in the emergency department.

To ensure accurate, timely and confidential record-keeping using Croydon Health Services systems including Electronic Patient Record Cerner/ EMIS/ Electronic), CPIS, NHS.net email and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook). To work collaboratively with the Safeguarding Children Team, 0-19 Public Health Nursing Service, Paediatric and Maternity services, and community partners to ensure safe outcomes for children and families.

To deliver health promotion advice to children, young people and parents including MECC.
