Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Valid driver license with a minimum of five years driving history that meets the standards of the SDLC Transportation Safe Driver Plan. • Demonstrated ability to communicate in English with sufficient skill to safely perform job duties. • Successful completion of drug and alcohol screenings. • Successful completion of a Department of Transportation (DOT) medical examination. • Successful completion of the dexterity test.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• High School diploma or equivalent. • Bilingual fluency in Spanish, Portuguese, or Creole.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• Knowledge of HIPAA, Public Records, Sunshine Law, FERPA, and other laws/regulations related to student and employee privacy, public information, and records retention. • Knowledge of general policies and procedures for the functional area of assignment. • Ability to comply with the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse requirements. • Ability to communicate effectively in English. • Ability to remain alert, patient, and calm in stressful situations. • Ability to work cooperatively and respectfully with students, staff, and parents. • Ability to bend, twist, and have full range of motion. • Ability to physically assist and secure students, including lifting up to 50 pounds. Adopted: 05/12/2026 Responsibilities ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Typical duties include but are not limited to:

• Participate in all required classroom and behind-the-wheel training sessions as scheduled by the transportation department. • Learn and practice safe driving techniques for operating a school bus in accordance with state and federal regulations. • Study and apply traffic laws, defensive driving strategies, and district transportation policies. • Gain proficiency in conducting pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections. • Learn proper student loading and unloading procedures, including the use of wheelchair lifts and securing mobility devices. • Practice student management strategies to maintain a safe and respectful onboard environment. • Understand and apply emergency and evacuation procedures for a variety of scenarios. • Maintain punctuality, professional appearance, and a positive attitude during all training activities. • Successfully complete all written and performance-based testing required for CDL licensing and district certification. • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
