ASSISTANT COACH JOB DESCRIPTION
• JOHN PAUL II CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL
POSITION TITLE: GIRLS VARSITY SOCCER - ASSISTANT COACH GENERAL DESCRIPTION The Assistant Coach will instruct fellow student athletes in the system, fundamental skills, strategies and physical training necessary for them to realize their talents as well as professional, individual and team success. APPROVED BY: The principal as recommended by the Athletic Director and recruited by the Varsity Head Coach. SUPERVISES: Student athletes assigned and those portions of the athletic program as determined by the Varsity Head Coach. JOB GOALS: To carry out the aims and objectives of the sports program as outlined by the Varsity Head Coach and Athletic Department. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Assists with organization, planning, and implementation of practice sessions and contest game plans.
• Teaches the fundamentals, system, and techniques of the particular sport as well as the values of good sportsmanship.
• Maintains discipline and works as a teacher to encourage players, in a non-physical and positive manner, to exhibit the God-given talents they possess.
• Attends all coaching staff and Athletic Department meetings, as needed.
• Strives, at all times, to increase morale and cooperation within the total school athletic program.
• Dresses in an appropriate manner for both practices and games as directed by the Varsity Head Coach and provides, through actions, a positive, Catholic role model for each student-athlete.
• Keeps up on all rules, regulations, and guidelines as stated in the Athletic Department Handbook; League Constitution, AIA Code of Ethics and National Federation Handbook for sport assigned.
• Informs Varsity Head Coach immediately of missing student-athletes from practice or contests as well as roster changes (additions or deletions) and of all athletic related injuries.
• Attends conventions and professional clinics as assigned.
• Performs duties that are consistent with the nature of the position, as requested by Varsity Head Coach and/or Athletic Director including but not limited to: weight room and/or locker room supervision; inventory assistance, issuing and intake of equipment and uniforms; supervision of transportation of student-athletes; fundraising; attendance at “Open House” activities.
• Abide by any and all provisions of coaching agreement as well as AIA. and school “Code of Ethics”.
• Foster the department and school “Philosophy” and “Mission” Statements in a spirit of “assistance” and “presence” as set out by St. John Paul II Catholic High School.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS
• Coaching and/or playing experience preferred in sport
• Two years previous high school varsity coaching or equivalent required
• Valid CPR and First Aid card
• Must also be certified in the state required NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching Class or certified in Positive Coaching Alliance
• Must complete Diocesan Safe Environment Training (renewed each year on July 1st)
• AZ Fingerprint clearance card required
• Completion of the following NFHS Learn Courses:
• Bullying, Hazing, and Inappropriate Behaviors
• Concussion in Sports
• Heat and Illness Prevention
• Sudden Cardiac Arrest
• First Aid and CPR (Can be completed outside of NFHS)
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT Seasonal Coaching Contract as approved by the Athletic Director and/or Principal. EVALUATION Varsity Head Coach and Athletic Director, immediately following the conclusion of each season. This evaluation will be forwarded to the Principal with appropriate recommendations.
