Job SummaryAbout the Position: Crane Army Ammunition Activity (CAAA) is location on US Naval Station Crane, about 30 miles outside of Bloomington Indiana. The work schedule is Mon - Thurs 0630 - 1700 or 0600 - 1630 depending on shop surveys and sampling schedule. There are occasional Friday and/or Saturday hours when sampling dictates. QualificationsWho May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Basic Requirement for Industrial Hygienist: A. Degree: Bachelor's or graduate (or higher level) degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science. The education must be accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Degree must be completed by May 2018. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts). OR B. Related Degree: Bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene. The education must be accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. For engineering degrees to be acceptable, the curriculum must be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum. Degree must be completed by May 2018. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts). OR C. Certification from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH). In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) assistance with conducting industrial hygiene surveys of assigned areas to determine the presence of potentially harmful chemical, physical, and/or biological hazards and 2) preparing standard operating procedures, technical papers, bulletins, or guides and 3) providing recommendations for elimination and/or mitigation of hazards found during surveys. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade level in the federal service (GS-11 or equivalent).
Major DutiesPlan and conduct workplace surveys to identify, measure, and control hazardous chemical, physical, and biological exposures, logging findings into the Defense Occupational and Environmental Health readiness System (DOEHRS) database.Manage the Respiratory Protection Program by conducting fit testing, training personnel, maintaining equipment, and handling hazardous materials during accident investigations.Provide expert occupational health consultation to department leadership, interpreting toxicological data and advising on complex health risks across industrial processes.Develop and deliver comprehensive industrial hygiene training programs covering personal protective equipment (PPE), hazard communication, hearing conservation, and toxin safety.Perform building walk-through to evaluate work practices, investigate hazards with specialized equipment, and generate technical reports detailing required corrective actions.
