Job Title: Commercial Roofing Laborer / Field TechnicianJob DescriptionThis full-time Commercial Roofing Laborer / Field Technician role supports commercial and multifamily roofing projects across the Greater San Francisco Bay Area. You will assist with roof demolition, site preparation, material handling, installation support, repairs, and maintenance while working closely with senior roofers and field leadership. The position is physically demanding, requires strict adherence to safety standards, and offers training and advancement opportunities for individuals seeking a long-term career in the construction and roofing trades. Responsibilities • Set up job sites safely by establishing ladder access, safety perimeter lines, staging zones, warning lines, barricades, and controlled access areas, and by installing and maintaining personal fall arrest systems (PFAS). • Follow all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and roofing industry best practices, and participate in daily safety meetings, toolbox talks, and job hazard assessments. • Inspect, utilize, and maintain fall protection equipment and PFAS properly, and immediately report unsafe conditions, near misses, damaged equipment, or hazards. • Maintain compliance with customer-specific safety programs and site requirements while ensuring a clean, organized, and hazard-free job site throughout each project. • Remove existing roofing systems such as TPO, PVC, modified bitumen, built-up roofing (BUR), shingles, coatings, and flashing systems, including insulation, underlayment, and roofing assemblies. • Prepare concrete, metal, plywood, and structural roof decks for installation by cleaning, scraping, grinding, removing fasteners, and performing other surface preparation activities. • Assist in identifying damaged substrates that require repair or replacement and support the team in executing appropriate corrective actions. • Support senior roofers and foremen in installing commercial roofing systems, including TPO, PVC, modified bitumen, built-up roofing, roof coatings, insulation systems, and waterproofing components. • Assist with membrane welding, application of adhesives, fastening systems, flashing installation, edge metal installation, and other installation tasks according to specifications and manufacturer guidelines. • Measure, cut, stage, and align roofing materials accurately, and learn and follow manufacturer installation guidelines and warranty requirements. • Safely load, unload, transport, hoist, and stage roofing materials, tools, and equipment using proper lifting techniques and rigging methods. • Operate material lifts, hoists, hand trucks, and roofing equipment when authorized, and assist with roof loading activities and material distribution throughout the project. • Handle roofing materials such as insulation boards, membranes, adhesives, sheet metal, fasteners, and related components, while maintaining proper inventory and organization of job site materials. • Safely operate and maintain a variety of tools and equipment, including power saws, drills, heat welders, heat guns, grinders, routers, circular saws, pneumatic tools, generators, pressure washers, and specialty roofing equipment. • Perform routine inspections of tools and equipment, and promptly report damaged, unsafe, or malfunctioning equipment for repair or replacement. • Conduct daily cleanup and debris removal, protect customer property and surrounding landscaping, and assist in final project cleanup and site restoration. • Maintain clean and organized work areas throughout each project, contributing to a professional job site appearance and efficient workflow. • Represent the company professionally when interacting with property managers, residents, business owners, and customers, demonstrating a customer-service mindset and respect for occupied properties. • Contribute to the company’s reputation for quality workmanship, exceptional customer satisfaction, and projects that are built to code, safely, cleanly, on budget, and on schedule. • Travel throughout the Greater Bay Area, including Fremont, San Francisco, Stockton, Napa, Monterey, and surrounding communities, to support regional roofing projects as needed. Essential Skills • Legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis, with the ability to successfully complete employment eligibility verification and Form I-9 documentation. • Ability to comply with customer, government, and project-specific requirements and employment verification processes. • Prior construction or roofing experience preferred, with openness to training candidates who demonstrate a strong work ethic and willingness to learn. • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 75 pounds consistently throughout the workday. • Ability to climb ladders and work at heights exceeding 30 feet, including on steep and sloped roof surfaces. • Ability to kneel, crouch, crawl, bend, and stand for extended periods while performing physically demanding labor. • Comfort working outdoors in hot, cold, windy, wet, and variable weather conditions for the duration of a full work shift. • Basic knowledge of hand tools and power tools commonly used in construction and roofing environments. • Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and safety-focused mindset with a commitment to strict safety standards and OSHA compliance. • Dependable attendance, punctuality, and the ability to follow verbal and written instructions from supervisors and senior roofers. • Strong teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with a crew of other roofing laborers and technicians. • Willingness to learn and develop roofing trade skills, including installation techniques and manufacturer-certified systems. • Commitment to producing quality workmanship that meets or exceeds project specifications and customer expectations. • Professional appearance and customer-service mentality when working on occupied properties and interacting with clients. • Reliable transportation to designated reporting locations and job sites throughout the Greater Bay Area. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Experience in commercial construction, roofing, or general contracting is highly desirable. • Backgrounds in construction labor, carpentry, waterproofing, solar installation, and related trades are encouraged. • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification is preferred. • Formal fall protection training is an advantage. • Forklift certification is beneficial for material handling and equipment operations. • First Aid and CPR certification is preferred to support job site safety. • Hands-on experience with commercial roofing systems, particularly TPO and PVC, is a strong plus. • Valid California driver’s license with a clean driving record is preferred for travel between job sites. • Familiarity with roof replacement, roof maintenance, siding work, and general labor tasks in construction environments. • Experience using power tools and hand tools such as drills, saws, grinders, heat welders, and pneumatic tools in a safe and efficient manner. You primarily work outdoors on commercial and multifamily properties, often at heights and on sloped roof surfaces, in varying weather conditions such as heat, cold, wind, and rain. The work is physically demanding and requires standing, climbing, bending, lifting up to 75 pounds, and performing manual labor throughout the day. You will be part of a team of approximately 30 total employees, typically working with 3 to 10 other roofing laborers and technicians on each project. The environment is safety-focused and tool-intensive, utilizing ladders, PFAS and fall protection systems, material lifts, hoists, hand trucks, power saws, drills, heat welders, heat guns, grinders, routers, circular saws, pneumatic tools, generators, and pressure washers. Job sites are maintained to be clean and organized, with an expectation of professional appearance and conduct while working on occupied properties and interacting with customers. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fremont, CA. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $25.00 - $50.00/hr.
