Senior Software Engineer - Robotics, Kinematics & Machine Control
Job Description: Senior Software Engineer | Robotics, Kinematics & Machine Control Help shape the future of machine automation. Every day, construction professionals around the world rely on Leica Geosystems technology to work more safely, efficiently, and more sustainable.
We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer with expertise in kinematics and control systems to join our On-Machine Software team in Odense, Denmark, or Stockholm, Sweden. In this role, you will develop the software that enable construction machines to operate with greater precision, automation, and autonomy. About the role You will be part of the On-Machine Software department, where we design and develop developing technology used every day on construction sites around the world. Our software allows construction machines to understand their surroundings and execute precise movements.
As a Senior Software Engineer, you will contribute across the full software development lifecycle, from concept and architecture discussions to implementation, testing, and operational support. You will collaborate with software, hardware, and product teams to deliver robust, high-quality solutions.
A particular focus of this role will be supporting and evolving key machine control applications while contributing expertise in system design, software architecture, kinematics, control systems, sensor integration, and advanced software development practices. What you’ll do
• Develop and maintain software for machine control and automation systems. • Contribute to technical decisions, architecture, and system design. • Take ownership of key software components and drive improvements. • Collaborate across software, hardware, and product teams to deliver reliable solutions. • Develop machine guidance, automation, and control functionality. • Participate in technical reviews and mentoring of colleagues. • Work with sensor integration, positioning technologies, and control algorithms. • Contribute to technical investigations and innovation initiatives. What you'll bring You have a degree in Software Engineering, Robotics, Control Engineering, or a related technical discipline and several years of professional software development experience.
You thrive on tackling complex system-level challenges and are often the person colleagues turn to for technical guidance. While you work well independently when needed, you also enjoy collaborating with others and sharing your expertise in our global organization. We expect you to have:
• Strong C++ development skills. • Experience developing software on Linux-based platforms. • Experience working across the full software development lifecycle. • Understanding of software architecture principles and object-oriented design. • Experience developing sensor-fusion and state-estimation solutions. • Deep understanding of kinematic modelling and control systems, ideally applied to robotics, mobile machinery, hydraulic systems, or automation. Additional experience:
• Experience with embedded and real-time software development. • CAN, CANopen, or similar communication technologies. • Understanding of CRA, cybersecurity compliance, and secure software development practices. • Experience developing safety-critical or safety-certified software. • Experience from heavy construction, industrial automation, agriculture, or related industries. • GNSS, positioning systems, or machine guidance solutions.
