About this role

Salary: £95,000 - 130,000 per year

Requirements: Extensive experience working with or within central government, with a deep understanding of its operating models and digital transformation challenges.Proven architectural leadership in designing and delivering complex, enterprise-scale technology solutions, including leading more junior solution architects.Strong technical breadth and depth across cloud-based delivery, open source technologies, application development, integrations, and data management.Extensive experience designing and implementing solutions on major cloud platforms such as AWS and Azure, including IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS services.Hands-on experience or deep understanding of modern application development using languages and frameworks such as Node.js, Python, and Java, particularly in cloud-native and microservices architectures.Proven track record of designing solutions iteratively and working with Agile teams to develop transitional architecture.Experience designing integrations between services, such as APIs, and interfacing securely with third parties.Hands-on experience with building and managing data models and lifecycles.Experience considering and integrating AI tooling and capabilities into solution designs where appropriate.In-depth knowledge and practical application of government digital service standards and security guidelines.Exceptional ability to communicate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences, influence senior stakeholders, and build strong client relationships.Highly analytical with a proven track record of solving complex technical and organisational problems within a challenging environment.Hold security clearance or be eligible to obtain security clearance.Relevant industry certifications such as TOGAF, AWS Certified Solutions Architect Professional, or Azure Solutions Architect Expert are desirable.Experience with enterprise architecture frameworks and methodologies is desirable.Knowledge of specific public sector domains such as health, defence, or justice is desirable.Familiarity with emerging technologies beyond AI, such as blockchain or quantum computing, is desirable.Experience in a client-facing consulting role within a professional services environment is desirable. Responsibilities: Lead the strategic definition and articulation of architectural vision for significant central government programmes.Translate complex business requirements and policy objectives into actionable, enterprise-level architectural designs.Design end-to-end enterprise-level solutions across applications, data, infrastructure, security, and integration layers.Evaluate and recommend appropriate technologies, platforms, and vendors, considering cost-effectiveness, scalability, security, and maintainability.Oversee the technical design and development lifecycle, providing architectural guidance and assurance to delivery teams.Facilitate workshops and discussions with business, technical, security, and policy stakeholders to elicit requirements and build consensus.Manage expectations and communicate architectural trade-offs effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.Establish and implement architectural governance processes, standards, and best practices across projects and programmes.Conduct architectural reviews, health checks, and assurance activities to ensure solutions are fit for purpose, secure, and compliant.Identify and mitigate architectural risks related to performance, security, integration, and scalability.Lead, mentor, and develop a team of architects and technical specialists.Contribute to the firms architectural capability development by sharing knowledge, best practices, and lessons learned.Contribute to pre-sales activities, including developing proposals, presenting solutions, and shaping new opportunities.Identify emerging technology trends and assess their applicability and impact on central government clients.
