About this role

ALTEN UK is seeking a motivated Equipment Engineer to join the TD Equipment Delivery Team, supporting the end-to-end delivery of equipment contracts on a major nuclear new build programme.

Reporting to an Engineering Manager, you will work within the Equipment Delivery Team as the guiding hand for decisions across equipment design, engineering, manufacture, and installation, ensuring that every decision is made in the best interest of the project. This work spans Mechanical, Electrical, and Instrumentation & Control disciplines, and applications are welcomed from engineers with experience in any or all of these fields.

This role offers the opportunity to develop in-depth knowledge of EPR design and operation, to lead and enact pragmatic decision making on a daily basis, and to work within a fast-paced, high-profile project environment.

Take full ownership of cross-functional technical issues that would otherwise remain unresolved within the multidisciplinary team (MDT), achieving best-for-project solutions with a schedule-conscious approachProvide a decisive escalation route for deadlocked issues and act as a catalyst for innovative optioneeringWork with programme and technical teams on prioritisation and emerging scope topics, maximising the efficiency and value of deliveryUndertake global risk management, understanding risks across the project and maintaining up-to-date risk trackingUndertake specific risk management, bringing escalating issues back under control by putting in place mitigation plans and working with technical and programme teamsAdvocate for pragmatic decision making that respects the overall aims of the project, producing and driving delivery-focused mitigation plans for risks and issuesMaintain a strong focus on optioneering and governance decisions, ensuring these are fit for purpose and made at the right levelManage the provision of engineering services for the HPC project, achieving suitable technical outcomes with a focus on value engineering and optimisation Required Skills:

Sound, pragmatic engineering judgement within a relevant discipline (Mechanical preferred; Electrical considered, though the candidate will likely need to work across disciplines)Understanding of the nuclear industry, including ALARP principles and safety case alignmentKnowledge of design processes, manufacturing, and activities related to mechanical equipmentUnderstanding of quality requirements and practicesAdaptable self-starter with strong problem-solving skillsRequired Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or equivalent military experience.Desirable Skills:

Knowledge of power station design (EPR, PWR, or other nuclear power station technology)Understanding of HPC project structure, including the roles of RD, the Technical Directorate, and Nuclear ServicesAbility to speak French would be helpful Why join us?
