About this role
We are seeking a Laboratory Technician to join our Christchurch Microbiology department, on a full-time permanent contract on either a Tuesday – Saturday or Sunday – Thursday roster.
The core functions of the role we have available are to assist in the daily operation of our core testing departments. These functions include working in the test processing areas to receive and carry out accurate analysis of food, dairy, meat and environmental samples as required by our customers and accreditation bodies.
Key duties may include:-
To process and test samples without error, and within allowable time & temperature holding time requirementsTo store and maintain inventory of samples after testing, preserving sample integrityTo maintain good lab practice at all times, to ensure the highest quality service to our customersTo operate in accordance with the company's Quality and Procedures manuals and to comply to the company's various accreditationsTo keep the lab and equipment in a good physical condition at all timesTo maintain a positive, professional and safe working environment, being mindful of the company’s Health and Safety proceduresTo be willing to work on continuous improvement initiatives **Required Qualifications:**
Bachelor's degree (BS or BA) in a relevant scientific field (preferred)1-2 years of previous laboratory experience or exposureProfessional working proficiency in English, including the ability to read, write, and speak clearlyStrong knowledge of GMP/GLP compliance and laboratory safety standardsDemonstrated ability to follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) with precisionExcellent organizational and time management skillsMeticulous attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in measurements and documentationAbility to work efficiently under supervision using routine and standard methods**Preferred Skills and Experience:**
Experience with sample preparation using standard laboratory techniquesFamiliarity with instrument-specific data systems and softwareProblem-solving skills and analytical thinkingStrong team participation and collaboration abilitiesExperience in production-oriented environments with awareness of meeting deadlinesExcellent record-keeping and documentation skillsPhysical capability to perform laboratory tasks, including standing for extended periods and handling laboratory equipment All candidate CVs must be accompanied with a cover letter explaining why you are applying for this job, which will be reviewed.
