About the role:

We are looking for an enthusiastic apprentice who is passionate about web development and eager to develop their technical skills. You will support the development and maintenance of WordPress websites while learning core software development practices including coding standards, version control, testing, and deployment.

You will work alongside developers, designers, and digital specialists to deliver high-quality websites while building the knowledge and skills required for a career in software development.

Responsibilities:

Assist in developing and maintaining WordPress websites and digital platformsSupport the creation and customization of WordPress themes and templatesImplement responsive designs using HTML and CSS frameworks such as BootstrapLearn to write and modify PHP code within the WordPress environmentAssist with installing, configuring, and maintaining WordPress pluginsSupport troubleshooting and debugging website issuesTest websites across different browsers and devicesHelp optimise websites for performance, accessibility, and user experienceWork collaboratively with designers, developers, and content teamsFollow coding standards, documentation practices, and version control processes During the apprenticeship, you will develop skills in:

Front-end development (HTML, CSS, responsive design)Backend development fundamentals using PHPWordPress theme and plugin developmentVersion control using GitSoftware testing and debuggingWebsite performance optimisationSecure development practicesAgile development methodologiesDocumentation and technical communication Successful apprentices will demonstrate:

Enthusiasm for learning new technologiesStrong problem-solving mindsetAttention to detailGood communication and teamwork skillsAbility to manage time and complete tasks with supportWillingness to take feedback and continuously improve Applicants should demonstrate an interest in software development and some foundational knowledge of web technologies.

Helpful experience includes:

Basic understanding of HTML and CSSFamiliarity with WordPress or other CMS platformsBasic understanding of responsive web designInterest in learning PHP and backend developmentSome exposure to JavaScriptAwareness of how websites are structured and deployed Formal experience is not required, but personal projects, coursework, or self-learning are highly valued.

Entry requirements:

The learner must have completed a Level 3 Software Development Apprenticeship with QA or have an equivalent qualification with another training providerOR an A-level in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) subject and a successful completion of our aptitude testOR a BTEC Diploma in IT and a successful completion of our aptitude testOR 2 years’ experience in a relevant role and successful completion of our aptitude test You may also have a combination of qualifications and experience which demonstrate the minimum foundation needed for the programme. In this instance you could still be considered for the programme.

If you hold international equivalents of the above qualifications, at the time of your application you must be able to provide an official document that states how your international qualifications compare to the UK qualifications.
