About this role
Job summary
We are looking for highly motivated Staff Nurses, full time to join our established Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) at the Conquest Hospital. You will need to have a keen interest in neonates and be committed to delivering a high standard of patient care, whilst maintaining your own personal professional development. We will provide a supportive environment and are committed to the professional development of our staff.
Main duties of the job
It will be a requirement that you will undertake the Neonatal Pathway module after working on the unit for approximately a year. This is a university module and will require some time working at a tertiary unit, usually Brighton or Ashford
We work closely with the families of the babies on the unit and encourage them and support them to be able to care for their babies. We recently gained "Family Friendly" Gold accreditation from BLISS.The Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) is situated within the Maternity sector of the Conquest Hospital and can provide care for up to 12 babies at any one time. It is a 'level one unit' which means that the level of care provided is for babies of 32 weeks gestation and above. Ideally, babies below this gestation should be transferred to a level 3 unit in-utero. However, if this is not possible they will be stabilised after birth within SCBU and then retrieved by the Neonatal Network Transport Team, and transferred to a tertiary centre. In addition to premature infants, a baby may also be admitted to SCBU if they require more care than that which can be provided by the mother with the support of a Midwife. The unit operates on an 11.5 hour shift system on an internal rotation shift basis. Team working is an integral part of the running of our SCBU and this is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated nurse to join our team.
