Job summary
We are creating a team of experienced Health Care Support Workers who are passionate about supporting people with cognitive impairments such as dementia and delirium, mental health conditions, learning disabilities and autism. This team is part of a pilot who will deliver therapeutic enhanced care which involves a higher level of supervision such as 1:1 care, providing care to patients and in addition providing activity based support, for example playing a game of dominoes, reading a book to the patient, using prompt cards of past experiences to prompt memories and conversation. These interventions support patient recovery when experiencing distress or have complex needs.

Main duties of the job
As an Enhanced Care Support Worker, you will be an integral part of the Enhanced Care Team, delivering 1:1 enhanced therapeutic care, personal support, and supervision to meet the additional physical and psychological wellbeing of patient. Enhanced care and support will focus on patient-centred care giving and holistic activity and care planning to support the patients changing needs during their hospital stay.
This Team will be new to the Trust, and our hope is that it will develop and evolve with our collaborative team working approach to ensure we meet the advancing demand of the service whilst providing safe, patient care and supervision.

Main duties of the job
Enhanced Care Support Workers provide high quality enhanced personal care, support and supervision, respecting people's dignity, inclusive of their individual needs and preferences. Compassion and kindness to enhance patient health, wellbeing and experience is essential. Providing patient 1:1 care and support through observation and interaction, aims to reduce the risk of patient harm whilst enhancing patient experience. All patient personal care needs, support, and supervision is patient-centred and inclusive. Activities for patient therapeutic stimulation and enjoyment will be planned. Support new team members. A training programme for the fundamental learning of the healthcare service and ongoing support will be provided to ensure the role is undertaken confidently and competently. Additional bespoke training will be required to confidently undertake the role proficiently.
As this is a new service and team to the Trust your passion and enthusiasm for patient care and service quality and development will be encouraged. Your ideas will be welcomed to continuously meet the developing needs of the patients and service provided, and a proactive approach to work will be welcomed.
The post will be based at the Freeman Hospital in our Older Peoples Medicine Wards and will involve rotating through the different wards in the service providing high quality enhanced therapeutic, observation and care. You will become part of a specialist team who will be supported by a dedicated Senior Lead and Matron.

Essential Requirements
GCSEs in English and Maths at Grades 3-1 (or D-G or Level 1 Functional/Key Skills) please ensure you document this in your application in the qualification section, you will need to bring your certificates on the interview day. NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent direct care experience in a recognised healthcare environment, please ensure you document your qualifications and your experience in your application, you will need to bring your certificates on the interview day. Experience of caring in a health care setting which includes: Ability to meet basic care needs of patients, washing, dressing and assistance with feeding etc, good communication skills, ability to work effectively under direct supervision, as part of the multi-disciplinary team, an understanding of confidentiality, to uphold our trust values, flexible to meet the needs of the service and have basic IT skills.
All successful candidates will be given a bespoke training programme. Some of this will be delivered in our mandatory Healthcare Academy programme.
