About this role

Job summary The Senior Clinical Fellow in Plastic Surgery will support the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care within a dynamic plastic and reconstructive surgery service. The post holder will be involved in the assessment and management of patients across elective and emergency pathways, including outpatient clinics, theatre sessions, and inpatient care. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, they will contribute to a broad range of plastic surgery services such as trauma, skin cancer, and reconstructive procedures. The role also includes participation in clinical governance, audit, and the teaching and supervision of junior staff. Main duties of the job The post holder will provide high-quality clinical care across inpatient, outpatient, and emergency settings within the Plastic Surgery service, including the assessment, investigation, diagnosis, and management of patients with a wide range of conditions such as trauma, skin lesions, and reconstructive needs. They will participate in consultant-led ward rounds, outpatient clinics, and theatre sessions, as well as the on-call rota managing acute referrals. Working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, the post holder will ensure effective, patient-centred care and discharge planning. The role also involves supervising and teaching junior staff, maintaining accurate and compliant clinical records, and actively engaging in clinical governance, audit, quality improvement, and continuing professional development in line with Trust policies and national standards.

Person Specification

Qualifications/Training Essential

Full GMC registration MRCS or FRCS

Desirable

Higher training with higher level qualification.

Knowledge, skills and experience Essential

Substantial full-time NHS hospital service in the SHO or a higher grade since first obtaining full or limited registration Plastic Surgery, especially emergency Strong verbal and written skills Experience of audit and research Demonstration of keeping up to date with knowledge

Desirable

Evidence of training in management skills Understanding of the NHS Previous experience at middle grade/reg level
