Job summary

Jorvik Gillygate Practice is looking for a motivated and compassionate Practice Nurse to join our established multidisciplinary team.

We are seeking someone who is committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care and who enjoys working collaboratively as part of a busy and supportive primary care team.

We would particularly welcome applicants with experience in wound care, immunisations and chronic disease management, although training and development will be available in areas where appropriate.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will provide a broad range of practice nursing services and work closely with our Lead Nurse, GP team and wider clinical team.

Jorvik Gillygate Practice is a large, well-established and forward-thinking GP practice serving approximately 27,000 patients across three York sites Jorvik Gillygate, South Bank and East Parade.

Our main surgery is situated within York's historic city walls, close to local shops, amenities and excellent transport links.

We have a large and experienced multidisciplinary team including GPs, nurses, healthcare assistants, pharmacists, First Contact Physiotherapists, mental health practitioners, care coordinators, social prescribers and an experienced administrative team.

We are also a training practice and are committed to supporting staff development, learning and progression.

Job description Job responsibilities

The successful candidate will provide a broad range of practice nursing services and work closely with our Lead Nurse, GP team and wider clinical team.

Depending on experience and competencies, duties may include:

Wound care, ulcer management and Doppler assessment Removal of sutures Cervical cytology Routine and childhood immunisations Chronic disease management Asthma and COPD reviews Peak flow assessment and spirometry Diabetes and cardiovascular disease management Travel health Contraception and women's health Venepuncture ECGs Urinalysis and collection of clinical samples New patient health checks Ear care Assisting with minor surgery and coil fittings where required Chaperoning and supporting patients during examinations Requesting appropriate pathology investigations within scope of practice Supporting patient recalls and follow-up Maintaining accurate and contemporaneous clinical records Following agreed clinical protocols and escalating to the Lead Nurse or GP where appropriate

The postholder will also contribute to infection prevention and control, maintenance of clinical stock and equipment, clinical audits and the continued development of nursing services within the practice.

Person Specification

Experience Essential

Registered Nurse with current NMC registration Experience and competence in wound care, including ulcer care Experience in routine immunisations Experience in childhood immunisations Competence in removal of sutures Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team Commitment to high-quality, patient-centred care

Desirable

Previous experience within general practice or primary care Diabetes management Asthma and COPD management Spirometry Cervical cytology Travel health Women's health and contraception Experience of chronic disease management We are happy to support the successful candidate with additional training and development where required.
