The Role
This position provides practical and operational technical support to the Faculty of Health, Science, Social Care and Education (HSSCE) at Kingston University, specifically supporting the Departments of Chemistry and Pharmacy and the School of Nursing across two local campus sites. The role directly contributes to the effective delivery of teaching, student projects, and research activities.
Key responsibilities include:
Supporting the Assistant Technical Officer (ATO) with day-to-day department operations and helping supervise junior technical staff. Providing technical support and laboratory cover within Chemistry, alongside preparing, setting up, and dismantling practical classes in Pharmaceutics laboratories. Delivering a range of practical sessions to students studying Pharmaceutical Science and Pharmacy. Providing technical support for simulation-based learning within the Schools of Nursing and Pharmacy, including equipment setup and breakdown, troubleshooting, and supporting the introduction of new simulation technologies. Collaborating with academic and technical colleagues to ensure the safe, smooth, and effective delivery of teaching and assessments.
The Person
The successful candidate will ideally possess a Degree in Chemistry alongside relevant laboratory experience. Essential attributes and requirements include:
Strong problem-solving skills and confidence working with emerging simulation-based learning technologies. Essential foundational knowledge of Health and Safety, with ongoing training provided upon appointment. A flexible approach to working across two local university campuses (supported by an inter-campus bus service). Day-to-day reporting to the Assistant Technical Officer, and working under the direction of the Simulation Manager while supporting the Nursing Department.
Further Information
This is a full time, permanent position with a starting salary of £39,407 per annum.
