Assistant Professor - Cognition and Cognitive Neuroscience
Position Description: The Department of Psychological Sciences in the College of Arts and Sciences at Texas Tech University invites applications for a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track, Assistant Professor position to begin September 1, 2027, in Cognition and Cognitive Neuroscience. Competitive candidates will have expertise in conducting basic human research in fundamental areas of cognition or cognitive neuroscience, including learning, memory, language, perception, neural network modeling, decision making, and/or large language models.
Research methodologies are open and can include (but are not limited to) cognitive experimental paradigms, EEG, TMS, fNIRS, fMRI, and psychophysics. Preference will be given to research programs that incorporate artificial intelligence, computational modeling, and/or machine learning into their study of human cognitive and/or neural processes. Preference will also be given to research that has relevance to human health, well-being, and/or adaptive processing.

Major/Essential Functions: In line with TTU’s strategic priorities to engage and empower a robust student body, enable innovative research and creative activities, and transform lives and communities through outreach and engaged scholarship, applicants should have experience working with robust student populations at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels within individual or across the areas of teaching, research/creative activity, and service.
As a faculty member in the Department of Psychological Sciences, you will be expected to conduct independent, productive, and programmatic research, compete for extramural research funding, teach undergraduate and graduate psychology courses, mentor undergraduate and graduate students, and provide service to the department, college, university, and profession.
Preferred Qualifications: In addition to the required qualifications, individuals with the following preferred qualifications are strongly encouraged to apply:1. Record of teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses in cognition or cognitive neuroscience. 2. Record of conducting basic and/or applied research in areas of fundamental human cognition and/or cognitive neuroscience, including (but not limited to) learning, memory, language, perception, decision making, and/or computational modeling. 3. Experience conducting research related to human health, well-being, and/or adaptive processing. 4. Experience incorporating artificial intelligence and/or machine learning within research and/or teaching. 5. Record of achieving extramural funding or experience of competing for extramural research funding.

About the Department/School/Area: Texas Tech University’s Department of Psychological Sciences (http://www.depts.ttu.edu/psy/) has doctoral programs in Clinical Psychology (APA accredited), Counseling Psychology (APA accredited), Cognition and Cognitive Neuroscience, Human Factors Psychology (HFES accredited), and Social Psychology. We currently have 28 full‐time tenured and tenure‐track faculty members, 4 full‐time teaching‐track faculty members, 115+ graduate students, 1,600+ undergraduate majors, our own building with office, laboratory, and classroom space, and a newly renovated Psychology Clinic. Faculty have an excellent track record of applying for and obtaining external research funding. Our research programs encompass departmental, campus, community, and national/international collaborations. We have effective working relationships with faculty across campus, Texas Tech Health Sciences Center, large area hospitals, numerous clinics and psychological-service agencies, and other multidisciplinary groups in the region.

Faculty Qualifications: 1. Ph.D. in Psychology, Cognitive Neuroscience, or Cognitive Science awarded by August 2027 2. Strong record of research productivity relevant to the field of cognition or cognitive neuroscience (including, but not limited to publications, book chapters, and/or grant submissions) 3. Evidence of a commitment to teaching excellence (including, but not limited to, experience teaching or assisting in a classroom or mentoring students)
