About this role

Job summary

Are you looking for a career as a Healthcare Care Support Worker?

If so we want you to join our committed, dynamic team working on Ward A31 Left - Elective Surgery at the Bournemouth Hospital.

We are a 19 bed elective general surgical ward looking after a wide range of surgical specialities. This will give the successful applicant the chance to learn & develop their skills in a wide range of areas and would provide diversity in their day to day working life.

The successful candidate will need to work both days and nights on a rota system covering weekdays, weekends & bank holidays.

You would be working as part of a multi-disciplinary team under the supervision of a registered nurse within a patient facing ward. Previous experience of working in a care environment is welcomed but is not essential as comprehensive training & support are provided for all successful candidates.

Person Specification

Experience Essential

Experience of working in a team under appropriate supervision Able to demonstrate an understanding of principles of effective customer care Good basic hygiene skills (e.g. food handling, hand washing)

Desirable

Previous experience of working within a care environment/NHS Experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team Experience of working with the public

Knowledge Essential

Knowledge of when to seek advice and refer to a registered care professional Understanding of the importance of the promotion of health and well-being (Making Every Contact Count) Able to listen to advice from colleagues, agree a plan of action and implement

Qualifications Essential

Good standard of general education including literacy and numeracy

Desirable

NVQ Level 2 in care or customer services

Personal Attributes Essential

Courteous, respectful and helpful at all times Ability to work effectively as a team player under appropriate supervision, and as part of a multi-disciplinary team Manages stress levels effectively Able to work in a busy environment and manage own workload

Technical Skills and Competencies Essential

Ability to communicate clearly and effectively Ability to follow clear instructions and feed back to senior staff Ability to work as part of a team, as well as on own initiative IT literate

Desirable

Understanding of basic physiology, e.g. normal vital signs, fluid balance, nutritional requirements etc. Manual handling of patients, using lifting aids
