About this role

Essential Functions:

• Operates existing diagnostic ultrasound equipment with skill and confidence.

• Performs Ultrasound examinations on inpatients and outpatients as requested by medical staff members, within his/her degree of knowledge and training.

• Processes the films and scrutinizes them as to image quality prior to presenting them to the radiologist for interpretation.

• Assists radiologist when performing ultrasound guidance procedures.

• ARDMS certified in Abdomen, OB and Vascular.

• Performs quality control checks on ultrasound unit and transducers periodically as established in the procedure manual.

• Is involved in department’s Quality Assurance Program.

• Cleans work area and equipment daily, consistent with department and infection control policies.

• Reports malfunctioning equipment to department manager.

• Obtains pertinent physical history on all patients/exams.

• Assists in clerical duties, film filing, etc. and other job-related duties as assigned.

• File and maintain accurate records.

• Demonstrates accurate and effective verbal and written communication with all patients and department/hospital personnel.

• Records all pertinent info on each exam into the hospitals MEDITECH computer system.

• Assists in the clinical instruction of all ultrasound students who are assigned at SBA as a clinical site.

• Maintain required CEU level as established for annual certification status.

• Assists other techs in related job duties.

• Attends at least 75% of department meetings.

• Attends all mandatory meetings as established by the hospital.

• Helps maintain patient/hospital confidentiality.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Shall possess knowledge in sonography, with manipulative skills and abilities to operate both transducer and ultrasound unit. Shall be trainable in all modalities in ultrasound.

Education:

High School and has successfully completed an approved diagnostic ultrasound training program.

Experience:

ARDMS or registration eligible for Abdomen, OB & Vascular.

Certification/Licensure:

Shall be registered by the ARDMS, or registry eligible.

Code Blue Training:

A minimum of BLS is required.

Physical Demands:

May require constant standing. Requires frequent walking. Requires frequent lifting of 10-20 lbs. Requires occasionally heavy lifting of 55 lbs., above 55 lbs. with assistance. Requires carrying of 25 lbs. frequently and occasionally carrying 50lbs. Requires occasionally pushing and pulling 100 lbs. Requires occasional twisting, kneeling, bending, reaching, and overhead work. Requires occasional use of step stool and stairs. Requires frequent grasping. Ability to use typewriter, telephone, copier, and fax machine is required. Exposure to communicable diseases and hazardous materials is required. Eyesight and hearing shall be required to be corrected to normal range. Requires working under stressful conditions and/or irregular hours. Eye-hand coordination and finger and manual dexterity are required. Required to work with sharps, magnetic fields, radiation, and body fluids.

Working Conditions:

The normal shift for this position is from 0800 hours through 1630 hours. A 30-minute lunch period is included. The technologist shall work overtime and on-call time, as needed. Shall conform to hospital policies and dress code.
