About this role

Job Description:

• Accurately collects and maintains required demographic and insurance data, required signatures during the scheduling and registration process.

• Verifies insurance benefits for urgent care services.

• Collects co-pay or deposit due prior to services and/or initiates payment options per office guidelines.

• Posts all payments received. Balances cash drawer with all payments posted and received and prepares reports, as assigned.

• Scans documents to patient's account and/or medical record accurately, to be completed in a timely manner.

• Greets patients, answers the telephone, takes messages, relays message and directs communication to appropriate person in an appropriate manner.

• Contributes to positive customer relations by providing excellent customer service, with immediate assistance to a prompt, easy and friendly registration process, contributes positively to promote patient satisfaction.

• Opens the clinic at the beginning of the day and closes the clinic at the end of the day.

• Contributes directly to the measurement of days in accounts receivable and percentage of bad debt.

• Assists in maintaining medical records and processes records requests for medical records according to HIPPA guidelines.

• Displays enthusiasm, an interest for work and a willingness to expand professional knowledge base. Responsible for retaining and performing any routine changes in patient account process, keeping abreast of any insurance updates or requirements.

• Demonstrates knowledge of departmental responsibilities during emergent alarms, has knowledge and whereabouts of departmental manuals.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Ability to read, spell and write clearly. Accurate typing, filing and calculating skills. Skills in performing Excel and Word functions. Communication and computer skills.

• Will be orientated to and maintain competence in working with patients in the following age categories: Infant, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult and Geriatric patients.

• Has a basic understanding of medical terms.

Education:

High School graduate (or its equivalency).

Experience:

Two (2) to five (5) years experience in patient registration in a hospital and/or physician office, medical billing and collections, or an equivalent of relevant education and/or experience. Experience in working with the public, preferably in the medical environment. Experience in office procedures, preferably in the medical environment. Experience in related field mandatory.

Code Blue Training:

BLS Certified

Physical Demands:

May require constant sitting. Requires occasional standing and walking. Occasionally lifts and carries up to 35 lbs. May require pushing and pulling up to 35 lbs. Requires correct hearing and vision to normal range. Requires working under stressful conditions. Some exposure to communicable diseases and hazardous materials is likely. Requires occasional bending, twisting, climbing, balancing, stooping and kneeling. Occasional reaching and overhead work are required. Requires occasional grasping. Requires the ability to distinguish letters or symbols. Ability to use office equipment such as computer terminal (PC), typewriter, telephone, copier, and fax machine.

Working Conditions:

Includes working evenings, weekends, and holidays, with potential for occasional varied shifts.
