Job SummaryThe House Office Buildings seeks temporary Electricians for the upcoming 120th Congressional Moves Transition. This position is located in the Architect of the Capitol (AOC), House Office Buildings, Electricial Branch. The incumbent performs journey-level Electrician duties operation and installation of a variety of electrical and adjunctive electronic systems and equipment. This requires a 6 day a week schedule, and overtime may be required and in some instances it may be mandatory.

Performs- journey level electrical work without more than normal supervision. Major DutiesThese positions are temporary for the 120th House Office Buildings Congressional Moves. The job term may end when projects are completed, or funding expires. This position will be used to fill Day, Evening and Night Shifts. Shifts will be determined and or change based on Operational Needs of Management. Hours may change depending on Operational Needs of Management Journeyman level experience is required for the position. Responsibilities: Electrical Installation, Testing, Troubleshooting, and Repair: -As a journey level Electrician, interprets building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, and electrical maintenance and repair manuals to install, test, maintain, troubleshoot and repair electrical and electronic networks in multi-story, historical buildings. -Troubleshooting and repairing electrical and electronic equipment that contain circuit-based components including fire alarm systems, lighting control systems, variable speed drives and electric motor starters for the A/C systems. -Interpreting blueprints, vendor schematics, circuit diagrams and National Electrical Code (NEC) specifications to plan wiring layouts. -Pulls wire through conduits and through holes in walls and floors. Installs brackets and hangers to support electrical components. Installs, replaces and repairs lighting fixtures and electrical controls and distribution equipment, such as switches, relays and circuit breaker panels. -Connecting electrical power to sound and visual communication equipment, signaling devices and/or heating and cooling systems, including electronic controls. -Installing, modifying, repairing, and maintaining standard electrical lines, circuits, lighting control systems, and associated fixtures, controls, and equipment. Preventive Maintenance: -Ensures that electrical systems are grounded when installing outlets, lighting fixtures and switches. -Performs inspection and maintenance of existing to remain electrical equipment, such as panel boards, transformers, and ground fault receptables. Please Note: This position is temporary and subject to the project needs of the Agency. If project work continues, however, it could be extended beyond the 13 months-time frame at the sole discretion of the Agency.Requirements“To be employed by the Architect of the Capitol in a paid position, an individual must meet one of the categories below: A citizen of the United States; A person who is lawfully admitted for permanent residence and is seeking citizenship as outlined in 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)(B); A person who is admitted as a refugee under 8 U.S.C. 1157 or is granted asylum under 8 U.S.C. 1158 and has filed a declaration of intention to become a lawful permanent resident and then a citizen when eligible; A person who owes allegiance to the United States (nationals of American Samoa, Swains Island, and the Northern Mariana Islands, and nationals who meet other requirements described in 8 U.S.C. 1408); or A person who is currently an officer or employee of the Government of the United States.”
