Job Title: Overhead Door Service TechnicianJob DescriptionThis role focuses on the hands-on installation, service, and repair of overhead door systems and electric garage door openers across commercial and residential sites. You travel to customer locations, communicate professionally with customers, and assess door systems to determine the appropriate installation or repair work. The position combines mechanical, electrical, and construction-related tasks, using a variety of hand and power tools in the field. Responsibilities • Install, service, and repair overhead door systems and electric garage door openers at customer sites. • Travel daily from the shop to various job locations in the Lafayette area and surrounding markets with senior technicians. • Assess existing door systems and site conditions to determine required installation, repair, or replacement work. • Set and install overhead doors, ensuring proper alignment, fit, and secure fastening. • Calibrate and adjust electric garage door openers for smooth and reliable operation. • Perform basic wiring and connect door systems to sensors, motors, and control units in accordance with safety standards. • Verify that each door and opener system operates correctly after installation or repair, and perform final inspections. • Fabricate custom doors or parts when needed using welding, shaping, and fastening tools. • Use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively for construction and installation tasks. • Read and interpret blueprints and schematics to complete installations accurately. • Communicate clearly and professionally with customers on-site, explaining work performed and answering basic questions. • Support senior technicians as needed, learning best practices and assisting with complex installations or repairs. • Maintain a clean and organized work area in trucks, at the shop, and on job sites. • Follow all safety guidelines and company procedures while working with mechanical and electrical components. Essential Skills • Mechanical aptitude and strong interest in hands-on technical work. • Experience using hand tools and power tools in construction, mechanical, or related environments. • Basic understanding of electrical concepts, including wiring and connecting sensors and motors. • Ability to perform installation, assembly, and general labor tasks safely and efficiently. • Capability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics or willingness to learn. • Good communication skills and professional customer interaction on job sites. • Positive attitude, reliability, and strong willingness to learn new skills. • Comfort working in a field-based role that requires travel to multiple customer locations during the day. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Prior experience in overhead door installation, service, or repair is highly valued and may qualify for higher pay. • Background in mechanical, electrical, construction, or general labor work is beneficial. • Experience with inspection of mechanical and electrical systems is an advantage. • Familiarity with welding, shaping, and fastening tools used for fabricating custom doors or parts is a plus. • Ability to work effectively as part of a technician team, including supporting and learning from senior technicians. • Strong problem-solving skills to diagnose door and opener issues on-site. Work EnvironmentYou start each day at the shop and ride in company trucks with senior technicians to job sites across Lafayette and the surrounding market. The work is field-based and primarily performed at customer locations, involving both indoor and outdoor environments depending on the site. You regularly use hand tools, power tools, basic electrical equipment, and fabrication tools such as welding and fastening equipment. The typical schedule runs from approximately 7:30 a.m. to 4:00–4:30 p.m., with a 30–60 minute unpaid lunch break. Attire is practical and suitable for construction and service work, with appropriate safety gear used as required. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Lafayette, IN. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $28.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
