Job Title: Director of MaintenanceJob DescriptionThe Director of Maintenance leads the heavy aircraft modification team for a B777 Passenger-to-Freighter (P2F) conversion program, overseeing all maintenance activities and ensuring full compliance with FAA regulations, company standards, and customer requirements. This role drives safety, quality, and operational performance across multiple maintenance business units, with a strong focus on aircraft structures, heavy maintenance, and FAA Part 145 MRO operations. Reporting to executive leadership, the Director of Maintenance provides strategic direction, builds high-performance teams, and reinforces a culture grounded in respect, safety, quality, and results within a rapidly growing aerospace operation. Responsibilities • Provide strategic leadership over all maintenance operations, ensuring full compliance with FAA regulations, technical data, and company policies across all assigned business units. • Champion a high-performance culture aligned with the organization’s mission, vision, and core values, promoting collaboration, accountability, and employee engagement. • Oversee Maintenance Control, Line Stations, and Technical Support teams to ensure operational excellence and consistent service delivery. • Build and maintain strong customer relationships, serving as the primary point of contact for maintenance-related performance, communication, and satisfaction. • Ensure the availability of skilled labor, tooling, equipment, and support services to meet current and future operational demands for heavy aircraft maintenance and modification. • Drive workforce readiness by ensuring all technical personnel maintain required training, certifications, and regulatory qualifications. • Collaborate with executive leadership and department heads to establish priorities, streamline workflows, and resolve complex operational issues. • Develop and execute long- and short-term maintenance strategies, plans, and schedules to meet customer commitments in a timely and cost-effective manner. • Lead budget planning and financial oversight for maintenance departments, authorizing expenditures and managing fiscal performance. • Provide mentorship and performance management for subordinate leaders, delivering coaching, development, and corrective action as needed. • Serve as the principal FAA liaison for all maintenance operations, ensuring regulatory integrity, audit readiness, and effective communication with regulatory authorities. • Ensure aircraft, engine, and component maintenance adheres to all regulatory standards, maintenance manuals, service bulletins, and quality requirements. • Advise senior leadership on policy enhancements, operational improvements, and strategic initiatives that elevate maintenance standards and efficiency. • Act with full authority within corporate guidelines, implementing innovative methods to achieve organizational goals and continuously improve maintenance operations. • Support B777 airframe maintenance and modification activities within the Passenger-to-Freighter conversion program. • Travel to and work at multiple operational locations, including Marana and Tucson, as business needs dictate. • Perform additional duties as assigned to support evolving business requirements and continuous improvement initiatives. Essential Skills • Extensive leadership and management experience within aviation maintenance or aerospace operations, with a proven track record overseeing complex maintenance programs. • Strong analytical and organizational abilities, including experience generating forecasts, managing inventory, and interpreting technical data and maintenance documentation. • Exceptional attention to detail with a high level of accuracy and strong mathematical aptitude for maintenance planning and performance analysis. • Excellent communication skills with the ability to read, write, and comprehend complex technical and regulatory documentation. • Ability to plan, prioritize, and execute work effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced maintenance environment. • Self-directed, target-oriented mindset with the ability to make sound decisions under pressure and in time-sensitive situations. • Comfort with business travel and participation in industry conferences or trade events to represent maintenance operations and stay current on industry trends. • Minimum of at least 10 years of maintenance experience, including at least 5 years in aviation management or a related leadership discipline, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. • At least 5 years of structures modification experience, particularly in sheet metal work and heavy structural repairs. • High school diploma or equivalent as a minimum educational requirement. • Valid FAA Airframe or Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) Certificate highly preferred for credibility and hands-on technical understanding. • Demonstrated experience in aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) environments, including airframe maintenance and repair. • Proficiency in maintenance management practices, including oversight of maintenance control, line stations, and technical support functions. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Aerospace background preferred, with experience in engineering, maintenance, or fabrication projects. • Experience working on landing gear or similarly complex aircraft systems is highly beneficial. • Advanced education or technical training beyond a high school diploma is preferred, particularly in aviation maintenance, aerospace engineering, or related technical disciplines. • Experience in heavy aircraft structures, sheet metal repair, and modification within a Part 145 MRO environment. • background in B777 airframe operations or modification programs is advantageous. • Strong customer service orientation, with the ability to build trust and maintain long-term customer relationships. • Experience leading multi-disciplinary maintenance teams and coordinating activities across multiple locations. • Familiarity with safety management systems, quality assurance practices, and continuous improvement methodologies in aviation maintenance. Work EnvironmentThis role operates primarily on first shift, from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with overtime worked on an as-needed basis to meet operational demands. Work is conducted mainly in the main hangar and maintenance office, within an active heavy maintenance and modification environment. The position requires regular sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods, along with frequent bending, stooping, squatting, climbing, and reaching above shoulder level. Occasional crawling, crouching, kneeling, and balancing are necessary to access aircraft structures and components. The role involves frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling of weights up to 10 pounds and requires good eye-hand coordination, manual dexterity, and corrected vision and hearing within normal range. Commonly used equipment includes telephones, personal computers, printers, copy machines, and shredders, with the possibility of operating additional office equipment as needed. Working conditions may include exposure to materials listed on Material Safety Data Sheets, high-intensity noise levels, extreme temperature changes, and moving machinery typical of hangar operations. Appropriate protective equipment—such as goggles, safety glasses, face shields, ear protection, aprons, gloves, respirators, dust masks, and protective clothing—is required as needed to ensure safety in the hangar and maintenance areas. Job Type & LocationThis is a Permanent position based out of Marana, AZ. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $140000.00 - $160000.00/yr.
