SALARY: £26,436 per annum + Benefits

JOB OVERVIEW

This is a rewarding opportunity for a Learning Mentor to provide pastoral care, additional learning support, coaching and guidance for young people in an education and training setting.

Working as the Learning Mentor, you will support learners with barriers such as attendance, punctuality, behaviour, personal challenges and progression, helping them stay engaged and achieve their goals.

As the Learning Mentor, you will work closely with tutors, internal teams, referral agencies, local authorities and external partners to provide joined-up support that improves learner progress, achievement and positive destinations.

DUTIES

Your duties as the Learning Mentor include:

Provide Learner Support: Manage a caseload of learners and deliver tailored pastoral care, learning support, coaching and mentoring within the organisation’s support frameworkImprove Attendance and Progress: Monitor attendance, punctuality, retention and positive destinations, providing timely interventions to support learner successDevelop Support Plans: Create, record and monitor individual mentoring, coaching and support plans with SMART targetsSupport Personal Development: Plan and deliver activities that develop personal, social and employability skills for learnersWork with Tutors and Teams: Liaise with tutors and relevant staff to ensure mentoring targets support learner progress and achievementBuild External Links: Maintain relationships with referral agencies, schools, local authorities, employers, parents, carers, social services and community partnersProvide Progression Guidance: Support learners moving into employment, apprenticeships, further education or trainingMaintain Compliance: Keep accurate learner records and complete administration in line with quality, funding and audit requirementsPromote Safeguarding: Follow safeguarding, health and safety, equality and diversity policies and promote a safe, inclusive learning environment

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

ESSENTIAL

Advice and Guidance Level 3 and/or above and/or a relevant learning support qualificationExperience of working as part of a team and with minimum supervisionExperience of delivering support to young people and adults with a range of barriers to their successExcellent communication and listening skillsAbility to build supportive, effective and professional relationships with learners, partner agencies, stakeholders and employersExperience of managing challenging behaviourExperience of mentoring or coaching young people and/or adults to achieve education and training successExperience of setting SMART targets, recording and monitoring individual support plansExperience of planning and delivering support sessions and activities to support personal, social and employability skills developmentHighly methodical and organised, with confident IT skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office packagesAbility to resolve conflict positively, make objective judgements and motivate young people to participate
