About this role

What you’ll do

As a Senior Competence & Standards Specialist, you will be the organisational expert for workforce competence, behaviours and capability, aligned to our corporate strategies, values and current and emerging legislative, regulatory and professional requirements.

You will play a critical role in shaping how the organisation understands and applies competence requirements across roles and functions, providing clarity on accountability now and in the future. You will translate complex external standards into clear, practical guidance that supports organisational design, workforce planning, learning pathways and talent decisions.

Working collaboratively with HR Business Partners, People Development, Talent Acquisition and senior leaders, the Competence and Professional Standards Partner helps ensure statutory and regulatory competence requirements are consistently embedded, understood and sustained, supporting safe, effective and compliant service delivery.

How you’ll do it

Act as the organisation’s trusted specialist on competence, conduct and behavioural expectations arising from regulation, legislation and professional standardsProvide assurance and insight on current and future competence risks, identifying priority areas, critical roles and actions to reduce exposureApply a competence perspective to workforce and succession planning to ensure future capability reflects emerging regulatory and legislative expectationsDesign, maintain and govern frameworks, guidance and tools that define and support consistent understanding of competence and accountabilityUse data, insight, research and external intelligence to identify trends, risks and opportunities, influencing evidence-based decision makingWork in partnership with HR Business Partners to embed competence and regulatory requirements into role design, organisational change and people practicesEnsure that you follow and keep up to date with all relevant NHG and statutory policies and related procedures including health and safety and financial regulations

Essential:

Significant experience working in a complex, regulated environment with responsibility for competence, conduct or professional standardsStrong understanding of how legislation and regulation translate into workforce capability, behaviours and accountabilityProven experience partnering with senior stakeholders and HR professionals to influence people strategies and workforce decisionsStrong working knowledge of legislation and regulations impacting one or more regulated domains (eg. housing management, construction, building safety, finance), with the ability to apply learning across different regulatory contexts. Experience developing organisation-wide frameworks related to competence, conduct and professional developmentCIPD Level 5, or equivalent demonstratable experience. Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret data, identify competence risk and provide insight to inform decision makingExcellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to translate complex regulatory and professional requirements into clear, practical guidance What’s in it for you?
