About this role

The job of Educational Technician is done for the purpose/s of assisting in the assessment of student's development and/or behavioral needs; implementing plans for remediation; implementing educational plans; and providing information to teachers, parents and/or other personnel. This job reports to the Building Administrator Essential Functions

• Attends meetings as requested (e.g. in-service training, workshops, IEP's, etc.) for the purpose of receiving and/or conveying information.

• Confers with teachers for the purpose of assisting in evaluation of student's progress and/or implementing student's objectives.

• Evaluates students under the direction of certificated staff for the purpose of determining the need for further individualized assessment.

• Performs record keeping and clerical functions (e.g. scheduling, copying, etc.) for the purpose of supporting the teacher and/or administrator in providing records/materials.

• Prepares subject specific lessons appropriate for individuals or small groups for the purpose of implementing goals for reading, writing, math, language, and motor skills.

• Provides direct instructional services to students under the supervision of the building administrator or Special Education Director for the purpose of implementing goals for math, language, and reading.

• Research resources and methods under the direction and approval of certificated staff (e.g. intervention and instructional techniques, assessment tools and methods, community resources, etc.) for the purpose of determining appropriate instructional approach for students.

• Responds to inquiries for the purpose of solving problems, providing information and/or referral.

Other Functions

• Assists other personnel as needed for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment.

Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications Skills, Knowledge and Abilities SKILLS are required to perform single, technical tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating standard office equipment; and preparing and maintaining accurate records. KNOWLEDGE is required to perform algebra and/or geometry; read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and solve practical problems. Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes: age appropriate activities; subject matter taught in assigned classrooms; and stages of child development. ABILITY is required to schedule activities; gather and/or collate data; and use job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with similar types of data; and utilize job-related equipment. In working with others, problem solving is required to identify issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is moderate. Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: communicating with diverse groups; maintaining confidentiality; working with frequent interruptions; and exhibiting patience and compassion. Responsibility Responsibilities include: working under direct supervision using standardized routines; directing other persons within a small work unit; and operating within a defined budget. Utilization of some resources from other work units may be required to perform the job's functions. There is a continual opportunity to have some impact on the Organization's services. Working Environment The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 50% sitting, 20% walking, and 30% standing. The job is performed under some hazardous conditions. Experience Job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is desired. Education Bachelor's degree in job related area.
