Position Summary The Nashua-Plainfield Community School District is seeking a dedicated, compassionate, and student-centered Part-Time Paraprofessional to support students and staff in providing a safe, positive, and inclusive educational environment. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with teachers, building administrators, special education staff, and other district personnel to support students' academic, social, emotional, behavioral, and functional needs. The Part-Time Paraprofessional will assist students in accessing the educational program, developing independence, and participating successfully in classroom and school activities. The position requires an individual who demonstrates patience, flexibility, sound judgment, professionalism, and a genuine commitment to helping students succeed. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Learns specific teaching strategies presented by the teacher and focus on assisting students with the strategy.
• Builds relationships and partnerships with selected students to support the outcome of the strategy.
• Participates with regular classroom teacher in evaluating and assessing student effectiveness in utilizing strategies.
• Develops and/or assists in the development of teaching aides and other classroom materials.
• Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce strategies initially introduced by teacher.
• Performs other clerical duties as requested.
• Participates in in-service training programs as assigned.
• Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of fully licensed teachers.
• Administers, scores, and/or records such achievement and diagnostic tests as the teacher recommends for individual students.
• Performs those tasks requested by the building Principal.
• Works with students on implementing the specific individualized educational plan. This includes the academic, behavioral and social skills as outlined for the students.
• Supervises students to assure safety and compliance with the rules. Provides assistance as needed throughout the day-including bathroom use, hallways and other general areas.
• Performs simple errands and tasks for student(s) as instructed by the special education teacher.
• Works with individual students and small groups to reinforce material initially introduced by the teacher.
• Capable of physically performing duties, such as lifting and transferring, a student with physical disabilities as required by the individualized educational plan.
• Establishes as fully as possible a supportive and sympathetic relationship with the student(s) without fostering or encouraging intense emotional involvement.
• Serves as a resource person, if and when requested, to the student personnel staffing team conferring about one of the students to whom assigned.
Physical Requirements
• Ability to stand, walk, sit, bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and move throughout the school environment for extended periods.
• Ability to assist students with mobility, positioning, transfers, and other physical needs when required.
• Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and equipment as necessary.
• Ability to respond quickly to student safety needs and emergency situations.
• Ability to perform repetitive movements associated with classroom and student support activities.
• Ability to work in a variety of school environments, including classrooms, hallways, playgrounds, cafeterias, gymnasiums, and other school facilities.
• Physical requirements may vary depending on the individual student assignment.
Working Conditions
• Elementary, middle school, or high school classrooms and other school facilities.
• Frequent interaction with students, teachers, administrators, families, and other school personnel.
• Work may involve students with academic, behavioral, social-emotional, physical, or medical needs.
• Exposure to varying noise levels and activity levels throughout the school day.
• May require occasional work outside the classroom, including recess, lunch, arrival/dismissal, field trips, and other school activities.
Terms of Employment Work schedule, hours, rate of pay, and other terms of employment are established by the Nashua-Plainfield Community School District Board of Education and applicable district policies and agreements. This is a part-time, hourly position. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of required background checks and all required certifications and trainings.
