Job SummaryAbout the Position: This position serves as a Medical Supply Technician (Sterile Processing), performing the full range of duties to decontaminate, clean, prepare, sterilize, and distribute medical and dental supplies and equipment used throughout the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center (LRMC), Germany. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation

QualificationsWho May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes sterilizing medical and/or dental supplies and equipment for use in a medical or dental clinic per regulatory standards; inspecting medical and/or dental supplies for defects; and maintaining medical and/or dental instrument inventory to ensure daily operations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-5). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Major DutiesProcesses and maintains surgical instrument sets, including complex and loaner sets, to support scheduled surgeries, emergent procedures, and routine clinical operations.Conducts functional testing and inspection of surgical instruments to verify operational integrity, safety, and readiness for surgical use.Determines and applies the correct sterilization methods, cycles, and parameters based on instrument type, material composition, and regulatory standards.Initiates and executes sterile item recall protocols when issues or deficiencies are identified in previously processed loads to ensure patient safety and compliance.Monitors, maintains, and documents required climate control conditions in accordance with facility Standard Operating Procedures.Scans and tracks instruments entering the decontamination area to ensure accurate inventory control and timely distribution to hospital departments.Performs daily quality assurance testing on all cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization equipment to ensure optimal performance and adherence to established standards.
