About this role

Christopher B. Burke Engineering, LLC (Burke) is seeking a Transportation Practice Lead to help establish and expand our transportation practice in Indiana. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced transportation professional who enjoys both technical project delivery, business development and helping shape the future of a growing transportation department.

This is not a position where you'll simply inherit a large existing team. We're looking for someone who is excited to roll up their sleeves, lead projects, develop client relationships, and help build a transportation team from the ground up. As the practice grows, you'll have the opportunity to recruit, mentor, and develop staff while creating a team capable of delivering transportation projects from planning and design through implementation.

The ideal candidate is a strong transportation engineer, trusted advisor, and relationship builder who is passionate about growing client partnerships and expanding Burke's presence throughout Indiana.

If you're ready to make a lasting impact on transportation infrastructure while helping build something meaningful, we'd love to hear from you.

What You'll Do

• Lead and manage transportation infrastructure projects throughout Indiana from preliminary engineering through final design.

• Serve as project manager and client point of contact for municipal, county, INDOT, IDOT, and Local Public Agency (LPA) transportation projects.

• Oversee the preparation and review of engineering plans, NEPA documentation, specifications, reports, studies, cost estimates, schedules, and contract documents.

• Develop and manage project scopes, budgets, schedules, and fee estimates while ensuring projects remain on schedule and within budget.

• Coordinate project activities with clients, regulatory agencies, subconsultants, and multidisciplinary internal teams throughout project development and delivery.

• Lead QA/QC efforts and technical reviews to ensure compliance with applicable agency standards, regulations, and design criteria.

• Attend and present at client, public, agency coordination, and stakeholder meetings while serving as a trusted advisor to clients.

• Identify opportunities for additional services, support proposal and interview preparation, and provide leadership, mentoring, recruiting, and professional development support to staff.

What You Bring

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.

• Professional Engineer (PE) license in Indiana; Illinois licensure preferred.

• 10+ years of experience in transportation engineering and infrastructure projects.

• Experience managing transportation projects for municipal, county, state, and transportation agency clients.

• Strong knowledge of INDOT, IDOT, local agency design standards, and transportation project development and delivery processes.

• Experience preparing and reviewing plans, specifications, estimates, and contract documents, along with knowledge of local, state, and federal permitting and regulatory processes.

• Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D, OpenRoads Designer, MicroStation, and Microsoft Office.

• Strong leadership, project management, communication, and client relationship skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

Bonus Qualifications

• Existing relationships with Indiana municipalities, counties, INDOT, MPOs, and other transportation agencies.

• Experience managing Local Public Agency (LPA) and federally funded transportation projects.

• Experience supporting business development efforts, proposal preparation, and client relationship development.

• Active involvement in professional organizations such as ACEC, ASCE, APWA, ITE, or similar industry organizations.

• Experience leading technical teams and mentoring engineering staff.

• Experience establishing and growing client relationships within Indiana transportation markets.

Not Sure You're a Perfect Match?

That's okay. If you're an experienced transportation professional who enjoys building relationships, leading projects, and helping grow a team, we encourage you to apply. Your background and leadership experience could make you a great fit for this opportunity.
