Director of Nursing/Deputy Chief Nurse - 6 month fixed term contract

We are delighted to be appointing a Director of Nursing/Deputy Chief Nurse for Acute Services at Croydon Health Services on a six-month fixed-term contract.

This is a key strategic leadership role supporting the Chief Nurse, Chief Medical Officer and Managing Director to progress the Nursing & Midwifery Strategy and implement the NHS Plan.

The post holder will provide strategic and professional leadership, with accountability for:

Ensuring CQC regulatory standards are embedded and met, supporting the Trust's ambition to achieve an outstanding rating. Leading the development and delivery of the Nursing Strategy. Developing an integrated workforce strategy, including advanced practice and extended roles to support patients with complex long-term conditions and frailty. Ensuring the nursing model reflects and integrates the wider social determinants of health. Developing an education and learning strategy to support the development, retention and growth of the nursing workforce, enabling staff to lead and innovate. Providing a corporate lead for Workforce and Professional Standards. This is an exciting opportunity to provide visible, strategic nursing leadership and help shape the future delivery of Acute Services across Croydon.

Main duties of the job

Reporting to the Chief Nurse, the Deputy Chief Nurse (DCN)/Director of Nursing will support the development and delivery of the Trust's Nursing and Midwifery Strategy, working with the Chief Nurse and other deputies to ensure delivery of agreed objectives, quality standards and resource controls.

The post holder will provide strategic and professional leadership across nursing and midwifery, driving excellence in clinical practice, professional standards, leadership development and workforce capacity. They will provide expert advice on nursing matters to the Chief Nurse and contribute to the delivery of Clinical Board and Trust-wide priorities.

The Director of Nursing will be accountable for ensuring consistently high and safe standards of nursing care across all clinical services, including community nursing. Working with the Deputy Director of Nursing and Assistant Directors of Nursing, they will develop and implement strategies, policies and improvement programmes, using performance and outcome measures to assure quality, safety and effectiveness.

The post holder will lead the development of nursing clinical practice and monitor nursing outcomes through established performance management processes, driving continuous improvement in patient safety, quality and experience.

The Director of Nursing will deputise for the Chief Nurse as required, providing senior leadership and support to the wider nursing leadership team with a high degree of autonomy.
