About this role

Job summary

We are looking for a phlebotomist to join our team within a busy GP practice environment. This patient-facing role is integral to supporting the diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of patients by delivering a safe, efficient and high-quality blood collection service. You will work with a broad range of patients and collaborate closely with GPs, nurses and the wider practice team to ensure excellent standards of care. Main duties of the job

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Deliver a professional phlebotomy service by obtaining patient consent, performing venepuncture safely and adhering to clinical protocols while providing an excellent patient experience.

Accurately record patient information, label and manage specimens, resolve discrepancies and ensure samples are processed and transported to laboratories within required timescales.

Work collaboratively with clinicians and practice colleagues to support service delivery, contribute to audits and continuous improvement initiatives, and promote high standards of patient care.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

Relevant qualification in venepuncture and a good standard of education, including English and Mathematics (or equivalent).

Experience working within a General Practice setting and providing care or services directly to members of the public.

Excellent communication, organisational and IT skills, with the ability to maintain accurate clinical records and work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Core Responsibilities

The following are the core responsibilities of the phlebotomist. There may be on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:

Obtaining patient consent for the collection of a blood sample

Performing venepuncture in accordance with practice protocols

Maintaining accurate patient records on SystmOne clinical system

The correct labelling, packaging and storing of samples

Effective use of the specimen log, resolving any discrepancies

Ensuring samples are sent to the laboratory in a timely manner

Working collaboratively with the nursing team, seeking guidance when necessary for patient related matters

Secondary Responsibilities

In addition to the primary responsibilities, the Phlebotomist may be requested to:

Participate in practice audit as directed by the audit lead

Participate in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care

Support and participate in shared learning within the practice
